This Sports Reporter’s Go-To Fix for Under-Eye Bags

Kirsten Watson on the beauty must-haves for her packed work schedule.

Welcome to I Swear By This, a series where we chat with our favorite fashion and beauty insiders about the beauty products they use down to the last drop. This week, we asked Kirsten Watson, a reporter for the L.A. Dodgers and the L.A. Rams, to share all the products she's loving right now.

In the past year, sports reporter Kirsten Watson’s schedule has completely changed. She’d been reporting and hosting for Spectrum SportsNet while also balancing a traditional 9-to-5 as a producer for the NFL for five years when she received a phone call: the L.A. Dodgers had an opening for a full-time team reporter position. Three interviews later, she celebrated with her agents.

Once the Dodgers season ended, she signed on as a reporter and host for the L.A. Rams, the city’s professional football team. And while these roles look glamorous from the outside looking in, they involve a lot of work—and travel. “You are working the game then you're immediately getting on the plane afterwards to go to the next city. The weather could be changing,” Watson tells me over Zoom. “One day you’re in St. Louis then, you’re off to New York City then, you’re back to L.A. You really have to adjust to the different temperatures.” The constant travel can also impact your skin. Below, Watson breaks down her favorite beauty products she uses on, and off, the road.

Makeup Remover Cleansing Face Wipes

“These are a holy grail product for me, especially since I have to wear so much makeup for my job. There’s just always a ton to take off, so it’s helpful to keep these on me when I’m traveling. The guys I work with always try to steal these from me.”

Neutrogena

Unseen Sunscreen SPF40

“I cover outdoor sports, so sunscreen is huge. When I was in Arizona for spring training, the sun was so intense, and it made me realize that I really need to be more consistent with my sunscreen application. I’ll use the Unseen Sunscreen underneath my makeup, and I have the Refresh Mist to add a layer of coverage over my makeup through the day.”

Supergoop!
$34

Star Eye Mask

“There are 162 games in a baseball season, which adds up to about 180 days on the road. Just the intensity of the schedule means that sleep is somewhat lacking in my life. I’ll use these masks to help depuff my under-eye bags.”

KNC Beauty
$25

Super Serum Advance Plus

“My facialist introduced me to this brand, and I love using this serum. Living in L.A., the air quality isn’t the best, so dealing with pollution on top of being in so many different climates for work can stress my skin out. I feel like this product acts as a barrier, defending my skin from the elements while also rebalancing it.”

Is Clinical
$158

Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

“When I’m taking off my makeup, I start with the Neutrogena wipes and then, I use this cleansing balm to really cut through the makeup. It gets rid of everything without stripping my skin.”

Farmacy
$34

Radiant Creamy Concealer

“I think I’ve used this concealer for about 15 years now—since I was around 8 years old—and it’s still so good. It lasts all day and blends evenly into my skin without creasing.”

Nars
$30

Skin Fetish: Divine Powder Blush

“I was on the waiting list for this product for so long. I set every notification, so when it was back in stock, I bought it immediately. I love everything about Jasmine Tookes; she actually used this blush for her wedding makeup, so I had to get my hands on it. It’s the perfect blush—it adds just the right amount of warmth to your complexion.”

Pat McGrath Labs
$38

Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

“When it comes to eyeshadows—and to be honest, makeup, in general—I prefer more natural-looking shades. I tend to opt for pinks, rose golds, and browns, which makes this palette great for me. It has all of my go-to shades and it applies effortlessly, giving me that soft glam look I’m going for.”

Makeup by Mario
$48

Lip Butter Balm

“I get dry lips all the time, which is annoying since I feel like I’m drinking water all the time. But this balm helps a lot; it soothes my chapped lips, and it’s really easy to apply and throw in my bag when I’m on the road.”
