The Story Behind Jacob Elordi's New "Whimsical" Mullet

Everything is romantic—yes, apparently, even a mullet. Especially when it belongs to Jacob Elordi, and even more so when it’s ushering him into his Wuthering Heights era. For the film’s press tour, Elordi has quietly debuted a new version of his now-signature cut: longer, softer, and deliberately windswept.

If the mullet has long existed at the intersection of rebellion and irony, this iteration leans fully into feeling. It’s no longer about being edgy just to be edgy. In its place: romance, restraint, and a certain Brontë-esque vibe. According to Elordi’s hairstylist, Jill Halouska (the only person he trusts to cut his hair), the look was designed to mirror the emotional atmosphere of the film itself. “We wanted to do something that was a bit more romantic, soft, and whimsical,” she says.

Below, we talk to Jill to learn how this look came to be.

In what ways is this new cut inspired by Wuthering Heights?

"We went with something a bit more reminiscent of an Emily Brontë-like leading man. Something that feels more windblown (there's a lot of wind in this movie)."

How much do the two of you collaborate, and how much does he let you take the lead?

"Our process is very collaborative—it’s about capturing how he’s feeling and translating that into something visually interesting. He’s a great muse."

How did the two of you meet?

"I met him for a Bottega show years and years ago in Paris. I gave him a texture he didn't know he didn't know he could have, and we’ve been working together ever since. We also both really love music and bonded over that."

What songs are on the getting-ready playlist?

"Jacob is always the DJ. He has great taste in music. It goes left, it goes up, and it goes sideways. Right now we're listening to Bon Iver and Dijon."

"I diffuse Sisley Protective Shield Mist, then use Bumble and Bumble Wax Spray to define while preserving structure and integrity."
