I’m in Love with a Plate I Wouldn’t Dare Eat Off Of
This one’s for the wall, not the table.

I first fell in love with Irene Neuwirth jewelry at Capitol when my parents were living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her luxurious baubles captivated me with their rainbow array of ravishingly cut gemstones—opals, turquoise, and moonstones, oh my! Now, Neuwirth has extended her own lapis-clad hand beyond jewelry and into the realm of tableware with her first ceramics collection. The designer’s dear friend Anthony Dominici hand-sculpted and hand-painted each piece. Not only is the designer’s jewelry background evident in the tactile details of the one-of-kind dinner plates, but their equine subjects also reflect her love of horses, some wreathed in gumballs, others in carrots.

There’s a horse-head for the real horse girls or more subtle interpretations like a horse bit for those more attracted to the allusion than the real animal. These beauties will cost you $1,200 a plate, but I would view them more as a work of art than dinnerware. Think how lovely this one would look mounted on a kitchen wall. The collection is now available in-store and online.
