Fall is almost upon us. While some get excited for all of the festive themes that Fall brings, I get depressed that summer is coming to a shuddering end. The only fun thing, at least in my books, is switching up our wardrobes to incorporate more jackets as the temperature drops, and if you have a penchant for layering, this is always good news.
There are plenty of outerwear trends that will swing back around during the colder months. Military jackets, funnel necks, and—when it gets cold enough—plenty of fur and texture, but there are also some newer silhouettes and fabrications that are emerging on the runways and, soon enough, IRL too. Ann Demeulemeester FW26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsThe military jacket trend was certainly upon us last Fall/Winter season, but not quite as loudly as we are predicting it will become this year. At Khaite Fall/Winter 2026, Catherine Holstein sent a series of military jackets down the runway, all in leather and wool and with corded, ropey buttons across the chests, while at Ann Demeulemeester, Stefano Gallici offered bohemian military suiting layered underneath fringed scarves and over cotton shirts. When the world is at war, etc etc...

Alaïa FW26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsThe idea of a double-breasted coat is no new revelation, but it feels like a departure from the oversized silhouettes of seasons past. I loved the neat, skinny little coats on the Fall/Winter 2026 runways this year (Jil Sander's Simone Belloti and Pieter Mullier for his final Alaïa collection did it best) with double-breasted buttons and tiny, collarbone-length lapels.

Khaite FW26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsShrouds, capes, and wraps were a focal trend on the Fall/Winter 2026 runways this season, and plenty of brands, including Givenchy, Khaite, Altuzarra, Fforme, and Balenciaga all had their own interpretations of the silhouette, which leans into the sentiment of protection and coziness with a sense of freedom and casualty, too.

Isabel Marant FW26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsSilk, especially for Fall, feels like the perfect material to incorporate into our wardrobes before it gets too icy. Both Kallmeyer's Daniella Kallmeyer and Isabel Marant's Kim Bekker experimented with silk fabrications paired with frog closure buttons for a vintage, Pankou-inspired feel.

Funnel Necks

Altuzarra FW26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsWe know and love the funnel neck jacket, and it was a fixture of outerwear trends last year, so it makes sense that the funnel neck has a little extra life in it yet. This season on the Fall/Winter runways, we saw funnel necks get a more jazzed-up treatment. Sure, there were still classic wool funnel-neck coats and black leather bomber jackets, but there were also added elements to sustain visual interest, like a bright red version at Balenciaga and a fur and wool hybrid jacket at Altuzarra.
