Emma Stone Channels ‘90s Gwyneth Paltrow In Vintage Donna Karan
We love a reference.

For an appearance on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" to promote her upcoming film "Bugonia,” Emma Stone channeled Estella, Gwyneth Paltrow's heartbreaker of a character from the 1998 film "Great Expectations,” bringing the silver screen to the New York City streets. The chosen look was a matching skirt set from Donna Karan's Spring 1996 collection. The set, in an eye-catching green (one of the top color trends we spotted on the runways for Spring/Summer 2026), features a collared shirt with a single clasp and matching slinky maxi skirt.

In terms of previous press tour looks, Stone and stylist Petra Flannery have unsurprisingly pulled mostly from Louis Vuitton, the house for which Stone is a brand ambassador. This time, to our surprise, they turned to the archives and, as we love references and callbacks, we couldn't be happier.

In "Great Expectations,” Gwyneth Paltrow's character strolls through Central Park in the distinct green Donna Karan set and encounters her love interest portrayed by Ethan Hawke. As she smokes a cigarette and chats on a flip phone with her hair down and perfectly tousled, the look feels casual and effortless. That's the thing about two piece sets—it's a tried and true way of accomplishing a look that feels both effortless and put together.

For her late night show appearance, Emma Stone paired the revived ensemble with strappy Manolo Blahnik Susa kitten heel sandals and her noticeably grown out bob styled in a windblown manner similar to Paltrow's in the film. Her accessories were kept minimal, since the chartreuse-like set makes enough of a statement on its own.
As the Halloween release date of "Bugonia" quickly approaches, we're excited to see what Emma Stone and Petra Flannery pull next.
