Christine Chiu Paid Homage to the Qipao and K-Pop with her Gold Gala Look
For the ‘Bling Empire’ star and couture collector, it’s all in the details. |

Christine Chiu sees beauty in contrasts. The businesswoman, couture collector, and star of Netflix's Bling Empire celebrated her Taiwanese heritage at the third annual Gold Gala in Los Angeles this weekend, working with stylist Briana Andalore on a look that Chiu says "encapsulates me: East meets West, modern but rooted in tradition, elegant yet sensuous."
The gown, a black sheer and velvet qipao from the Chinese designer Sara Wong's Fall/Winter 2024/25 "Blossom Sand" collection, featured exquisite sequined details and immaculate craftsmanship—a modern tribute to ancient stories and abundant nature. Chiu, a consummate student of the fashion she wears and collects, carefully selected every element of the ensemble—from the eye-catching floral earpiece to the sleek, '20's-style updo—to fit the event's theme ("heritage black tie") and purpose (celebrating Asian Pacific talent across entertainment, fashion, and beyond).
Ahead, Chiu shares her thought process behind the look, the recent couture purchases she's most excited to wear, and one of her most treasured parts of Taiwanese culture.
