I haven't been a jeans girl until about six months ago. This isn't because I didn't love jeans or consider them a fashion staple or capsule wardrobe essential. I always wanted to be a jeans girl, but this is my reality: I have a big butt and, because of that, finding jeans that fit me is probably one of the biggest sartorial struggles of my life. The reality is that a lot of brands still aren't accommodating of curves. This results in gaping at the waistband, the absolute bane of my existence: jeans fitting well or too tight on the butt, but too loose on the waist. Times are changing though, the importance of inclusivity is more openly discussed, and brands (denim ones included) are making clothes with the reality of different bodies in mind
In solidarity with my fellow big bootied folks, I set out on a mission to track down the best jeans for big butts. Jeans that will actually fit and, ideally, accentuate our assets without feeling uncomfortable or restrictive. I tried 10 pairs in total, but these are the 5 pairs that have secured a spot in my rotation and finally, after years of struggle, helped me achieve jean girl status.
Still Here New York Cool Jeans

Still Here New York
Size range: 22-32
Washes: 10
Wearing true low-rise jeans (rather than mid or high-rise jeans that I purchase oversized for the sake of making them low-rise) seemed virtually impossible up until recently. These Still Here New York jeans are about as low-rise as you could possibly get and they miraculously fit with absolutely no gaping. I love the lack of waistband and the drawstring toggle which, in my opinion, makes them even more big butt friendly.

Jeanerica Kyoto Jeans

Size range: 23-33
Washes: 16
This Jeanerica pair is essentially everything that I look for: classic, baggy, slouchy, and not overly rigid. I purchased these one size up for the sake of them sitting lower with no gaping—which I would consider a success. These jeans didn't feel tight anywhere, which is a requirement for me, and the wide leg of them is very accommodating of curves.

DL1961 Karmine Refined Wide Leg High Rise jeans

DL1961
Size range: 23-34
Washes: 7
These jeans are one of the most comfortable pairs that has ever been on my body. They utilize DL1961's SculptSystem™, which is a fit-engineering technology that makes jeans sculpt to your waist, seat, and thigh. This results in a noticeable stretch and softness in the fabric, which makes them super big butt friendly. Not only did they fit in all of the right places, it also really felt like my curves were accentuated.

Citizens Of Humanity Lyra Long Wide Leg Jeans

Citizens Of Humanity
Size range: 23-34
Washes: 7
Another stretchy pair for the win. Citizen Of Humanity's Lyra collection is constructed out of a soft stretch denim. At times, it genuinely feels like I'm wearing sweatpants or yoga pants without it ever looking like so. Because of this, and the fact that they sit on my waist perfectly without me ever feeling concerned about gaping, these have quickly become my go-to. The wide-leg of these jeans feels distinct and I've been having fun pairing them with a range of shoes.

Reformation Cary Low Rise Slouchy Wide Leg Jeans

Reformation
Size range: 23-34
Washes: 17
A pair so good that I already own them in multiple washes. These Reformation jeans are one of the more rigid pairs that I have tried, but they feel roomy enough that the rigidity doesn't feel too tough or restrictive—and this is coming from someone who needs jeans to be comfortable while all both sitting and standing, and need them to be able to move with me. They sit perfectly low waisted and have enough room to accommodate a bigger butt.
