Even though it can be totally sweltering, August is the month when beauty brands launch their big fall releases—that’s how they gear up for the “back to reality” shopping rush we all feel when we realize we do indeed need to get our shit together. (I, for one, am squeezing in a hair appointment tomorrow with DJ Quintero before the NYFW rush next week!) This month was as impressive as we hoped, blessing us with our favorite Pat McGrath eye shadow palette to date and an affordable scalp scrub from & Other Stories’ new hair-care line. We even nabbed the new Dior liquid lip colors that dispense through felt-tip pens. The forecast calls for a very good-looking fall.

Dior Rouge Dior Ink Lip Liner: It’s called a liner, but all 12 of these pencils make for killer long-lasting lip stains if you fill in your whole lip. And for those of you who do line your lips, take note: Once you go felt, we don’t think you’ll go back.

Pat McGrath Labs Mothership V Eyeshadow Palette - Bronze Seduction: Technically this launches next week, but it’s on Sephora now. I attended the press preview for the launch of this palette with about 25 other editors, all of us sitting in a circle around Pat herself, while we passed the new shadows around the room. When it got to me, I co-opted the tester palette for so long that someone had to nudge me to tell me to keep passing it around. I have really never seen colors as gorgeous as the iridescent gold/green, shimmery red copper, and foil metallic rose gold.

Zoya Nail Polish Element Sampler B: I only wear red or burgundy or eggplant on my toe nails. This six-piece collection is perfect for my pedis while I wear open-toed shoes well into fall.

Nars 7 Deadly Sins Audacious Lipstick Palette: You know those palettes that you’re just never going to use because it looks too perfect to touch? That’s my only problem with this one… The perfect nudes, vibrant cherry, deep reds, and dark purple make an insanely photogenic gradient that I still haven’t broken into yet. Maybe I’ll use one per day for fashion week to ease me into fall.

OleHenriksen Glow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum: After sunscreen, the number one anti-aging ingredient is retinol. But some people find it tremendously drying and sensitizing. The ingredient in this lavender serum, bakuchiol, functions like retinol (a form of vitamin A) on the skin, without the irksome irritation.

Cartier Carat Eau de Parfum: We flew all the way to Paris to play with diamonds and learn about Cartier’s newest fragrance, which is inspired by the rainbow of color a diamond creates when light hits it. It’s light, fresh, and floral, and you’ll want to put the faceted bottle right in your windowsill.

Burberry Lip Velvet Crush Sheer Matte Lip Stain: This new cushion-tipped lip color leaves such saturated, bold color that seven of the eight shades are already sold out on Sephora.

Supergoop! Smooth + Poreless 100% Mineral Matte Screen SPF 40: One more time: The best anti-ager you can use is sunscreen. Period. Plus, it helps stave off skin cancer. My very favorite is Supergoop! City Serum, which uses chemical sunscreen ingredients that absorb UV rays. This new mineral version uses “natural” sunscreen minerals that reflect UVs. It has a tint, so it doesn’t leave skin white, and extra ingredients to help protect against the light from our computer and phone screens, too.

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder in Glow: The translucent setting powder I see the most in the bags of both professionals and real women is Laura Mercier’s. This new version has some luminosity to it, so you can set foundation (key for oily skin types), but there’s still some light reflection for a healthy-looking glow.

Clarins Skin Illusion Natural Hydrating Foundation: The texture of this foundation is liquidy, but it feels and looks like a cream as it goes on. I find foundation serums sometimes separate on the skin, but this formula applies evenly and actually covers stuff up—which is exactly what I want in a foundation.

& Other Stories Hair Scrub: If you are a dry-shampoo addict or still subscribe to the “less washing is better” myth, remember that your scalp is skin and a healthy scalp leads to healthy hair. In fact, if it gets too dirty in there, you can actually halt hair growth. Try using a scalp scrub every other week.

Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Highlighter: I’m so insanely wild about this new product. It’s a cream formula that is essentially a bronzer, blush, and highlighter all in one. The dreamiest possible cheek color. I’m also going to use it on my eyelids.

VDL Lumilayer Primer Original: VDL is a huge K-beauty favorite. This primer makes your skin look pearlescent, and when your foundation goes on top, you just look glowy and lit from within.

Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser: Even though it feels like a regular gel-like cleanser, there is coconut oil in this formula, and *nothing* removes makeup as effectively as oil.

Gucci Bloom Nettare di Fiori: How pretty is this floral-pattern label? Gucci, can we start making wallpaper now, please? Inside the bottle is a deep floral, with a little more wood, patchouli, and musk going on than the original.

Fourth Ray Beauty Later Hater: The beloved Instagram makeup brand ColourPop just launched a skin-care line. This little pimple treatment will remind you of the similar salicylic acid tonics from Mario Badescu and Kate Somerville, but cheaper.

Sisley Paris Le Phyto Rouge: These 20 lipstick shades are for *ladies.* The faceted bullet is like putting a ruby directly on your lips, and the luscious hydrating formula gives your pout a really bold color with a pretty satin finish.

Calvin Klein Women: It’s rare that I see a fragrance bottle that actually surprises me. I love this cap printed with a photograph on it. I can actually picture it on my vanity and looking like home decor. Plus, the woody floral with eucalyptus and orange flower petals is soft and sophisticated.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Antioxidant Glow Water: I have four face mists on my desk and countless backups at my apartment. The rest of the staff loves mists, too. This one has vitamins C, E, and B5 in it. I use it before applying a face oil, to freshen up my makeup midday, or to just chill for a second at my desk.

Benefit Cosmetics Brow Contour Pro: These clicky pens are throwing us straight back into middle school, and it brings me so much joy! Plus, it is true that we all need multiple colors to fill in brows in a natural-looking way. This four-color contraption (which comes in four different shade ranges) is just so insanely handy.

Elemis Peptide4 Thousand Flower Facial Mask: Normally I feel like I have to choose between face masks that purge pores and those that actually add something beneficial to my skin. This formula does both at the same time, so your skin is clean, smooth, and bright.

Beautyblender Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation: Once these 32 foundations and their 32 matching skin-tone-colored Beautyblender sponges arrived at my desk in one enormous pink beauty blender sculpture, all I could say was “Oh. Duh!” The foundation formula has good coverage and leaves a really natural finish that is neither shiny nor matte.

Clinique My Happy: These six new fragrances call back to the original Clinique Happy, which launched all the way back in 1997, 21 years ago. These new iterations are meant to be mood boosters and match six different situations in which most people find happiness: the beach, sitting in nature, flowers, and baked goods.

Kate Somerville DermalQuench Wrinkle Warrior: Very few skin-care products can actually do anything instantly, but this product has really deep hydrating ingredients, as well as extracts from sichuan pepper to help plump out wrinkles right away.

Kosas Tinter Face Oil Foundation: I’m so gaga over this all-natural foundation. It looks AMAZING on skin, and that’s super rare in the natural makeup world. It comes in a range of 10 shades.

Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial: This is the at-home peel for the type of person who feels like they could *never* do a peel without their face freaking out. It’s super gentle and hydrating, but your face will feel like a baby’s.

Michael Kors Wonderlust Eau Fresh: You can’t smell a Michael Kors fragrance without feeling like you’re about to step on a helicopter. In the case of this citrus floral fragrance, that helicopter must be on a tropical island with grapefruit trees, plentiful jasmine, and big white peonies.
