3 Beauty Trends Bound to Be Huge by Fall

This is what your hair and makeup will look like pretty soon.

fall 2018 runway beauty trends
Paige Campbell Linden

As the last models march down the fall 2018 runways in the City of Lights this week, we’re taking a step back and looking through the standout beauty looks from New York, London, Milan, and Paris. The most exciting thing for us editors here at Coveteur is to see that beauty *looks* are back. There has been adventure, surprises, and authenticity on dozens of runways. Of course, no-makeup makeup and easy air-dried hair texture are still in the picture (and as beautiful as ever), but plenty of backstage makeup keys were clearly having fun and inspiring a whole new wave of hair and makeup trends that we predict will be everywhere by the time fall 2018 comes around. See below for the top three beauty trends fresh from the shows.

UNEXPECTED COLOR COMBINATIONS

Color blocking has been huge in millennial street style and interior design, and these days it seems like odd and interesting color combinations are the name of the game. We see this in makeup, too, as shows like Marni, Dior, Maison Margiela, Altuzarra, Anna Sui, and Dries Van Noten played around with shades in clothing, eyeshadow, and lipsticks that you would never expect to go together but… just do.

IN-YOUR-FACE GLITTER

…. In some cases literally. Glitter is a mainstay on the runway, but let this season be no exception. In fact, glitter was so major (no one is deleting their Kirakira apps anytime soon) that some of the models at Giambattista Valli had their face completely masked in glitter. We also fell for the holographic glitter lips at Maison Margiela, across the forehead at Preen, and the chunky bedazzled jewels at Prada.

BRAIDS

Sure, loose romantic braids basically account for half the traffic on Pinterest, but it’s the tight, almost strict-looking braids and complex basket-weave-type plaits we saw for fall that got us inspired. At Alexander McQueen they were slicked back and hung like long ropes; at Simone Rocha they had ribbons woven in; at Roksanda the braids were twisted into pretty buns, and at Jil Sander they were cock-eyed and sideways, almost like they were mid-swing. It joined the club with the rest of the high-energy fall looks that were fully employing right now for spring.
