It *Is* Possible to Wear Denim This Summer Without Melting

The 6 summer-friendly pieces we’re shopping right now.

By: Curranne Labercane

We’ve always considered denim the basis of our wardrobe—the reserved other half that complements our gorgeous tops (as in an off-the-shoulder Caroline Constas for that heavenly sun-kissed look). But this season, denim is having its own moment in a major way. Think patchwork, embroidery, raw hems, and more. So clear your closet and make room. Here are six labels with this summer’s denim standouts.

JESSE KAMM Sailor Pants

Take a peek at L.A. designer Jesse Kamm’s Instagram—these are the summer vibes we’re talking about. Kamm’s signature denim Sailor pants are the foundation for a Californian cool-girl collection. What would summer ‘17 be without a pair of these high-waisted wide-leg gems?

AMO Frayed Kick Crop Jeans

A sexy spin on sporty, these white micro flares come from L.A. brand Amo (“love” in Latin). We’re totally crushing on them because they make such a flattering silhouette—thanks to a slimming side seam along the outside of the leg. Plus, there’s no better length than cropped for summer.

ISOLE & VULCANI Stretch Denim Bikini

Once one of Filicudi Island’s best-kept secrets, the Italian beachwear brand Isole & Vulcani (“islands and volcanoes”) has been making waves abroad with its seamless swimsuits. Inspired by volcanic rock and black-sand shores, this denim-hued bikini is the ideal monochromatic statement for long summer days at the beach.

NILI LOTAN Franki Raw Cut Jeans

New York-based designer Nili Lotan is known for her cashmere sweater and slip dress cult following. Lucky for us, Lotan recently welcomed denim into her collection. Pair these step-hem raw cuts with sneakers or heels for two very distinct—and very chic—summer looks.

ADAPTATION Trucker Jacket

Denim veteran Ali Fatourechi launched a passion project last fall—a surf-and-skate-influenced label that features collabs with L.A.’s creative types. For SS17, he teamed up with artist Matt McCormick on this highly covetable graffiti-infused all-American classic.

6/6 BLISS AND MISCHIEF Song of the West Jeans

Bliss and Mischief makes the perfect-fit vintage jeans (search over!). The jeans are made in downtown L.A. from 100% deadstock denim and decorated with embroidered desert motifs. The Song of the West style—a mid-rise straight-leg cut with pastel pink roses at the knees—is our go-to summer pair.
