Getting Ready

Romee Strijd’s Post-Coachella Plans Are Surprisingly Normal

The VS Angel basically has the same to-do list as we do.

It’s pretty much impossible not to spot a Victoria’s Secret Angel when one is out and about, with their tall legginess and rock-hard abs. But at Coachella, it’s more than just genetics that make us go “Whoa.” It’s their style. Their sparkly makeup and ridiculously good hair. How they manage to nail the whole festival look—in 90-degree heat, no less!—while still setting trends that the rest of the world will follow all summer long.

That’s why we couldn’t wait to hang out with model Romee Strijd as she got ready for a day of desert dancing at the Victoria’s Secret Angel Oasis. What tips did she have to share? What did she pack for this particular getaway? And how was she going to detox after the fun, once she returned back to New York? Thankfully, she was willing to reveal between striking a few poses, of course.

What her warm-weather beauty routine is *typically* like:

“I try to keep my beauty routine as simple as possible—just kind of splash water on my face in the morning and use Embryolisse. I think [not wearing a lot of makeup] is the best for your skin. Drink a lot of water, make sure you sleep enough, and don’t put, like, body sunscreen on your face. That’s not good.”

The beauty essentials she never leaves home without:

“Lip balm. I really keep it simple! And maybe a nice bronzer. I think a little tan helps a lot.”

The product she brings with her on the plane:

“Sometimes I bring a hydrating mask, because you get so dry from flying, and if it’s a long flight, I like to put it on when we’re almost there. People look at me like, ‘Ah! So weird…’”

The perfect nail color for festival season:

“I’m into white nail polish. Or neon colors are always good for a festival.”

Her go-to travel outfit:

“Jogging pants, sneakers, and a sweater. Just making myself comfortable.”

If she’s an over-packer or an under-packer:

“I’m an over-packer. A big over-packer. I can never decide what I like best. I want to bring a lot of tops, so I can mix and match, and a lot of layers. I like layers.”

Romee Strijd: “There would be butter lettuce, feta, avocado, tomato, cucumber, and chicken. And some kind of organic vinaigrette.”

What she packed for Coachella:

“I packed a lot of bralettes because it’s so fun to wear them as tops. Then, denim shorts, a lot of colorful bandanas, and a lot of jewelry just to play around with.”

The one thing she would never wear to the festival:

“I would never wear uncomfortable shoes, like high heels.”

Who she was most excited to see perform:

“I was excited to see Radiohead, but overall, I was really excited to see Lady Gaga because she performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. I think it’s super fun to be with someone onstage and then see them performing after. It’s like, ‘Hey! I was on stage with you!’ I like all the DJs too, like DJ Snake and Martin Garrix, a Dutch DJ. I’m from Holland, so we have a big DJ scene. But overall, I just like to hear music and dance.”

On all that delicious festival food:

“[The food] is always fun, because they have all those amazing food trucks from all the best spots. I’m really excited about this specific acai bowl I had last year—it was the best one I ever had in my life. I don’t know where the truck was from, but it was really good. I love acai bowls, especially with the warm weather. It’s really refreshing.”

Her tips for surviving Coachella:

“Drink a lot of water, have your girlfriends around, and make sure to bring a little rollerball [fragrance]. Victoria’s Secret has those rollerball fragrances, and they‘re so good to have in your bag when you feel like you need some refreshment.”

The amount of water she drinks per day:

“Lately I haven’t been so good with my water, but normally I try to drink at least five full bottles. If you go to the supermarket, buy the big bottles instead of the small ones. Then you’ll carry it around and you'll sip because you have it.”

If she’d ever rock a fanny pack:

“Yes, I have one with me, actually! It’s comfortable. I’d put lip balm, a rollerball, some chewing gum, my cellphone, and my wallet in there.”

Her post-Coachella plans:

“I’m flying back to New York and going to have three days of hopefully chilling and reorganizing my apartment.”
