The Beauty Routine of a Fashion CEO

Kirna Zabête’s CEO knows what she’s doing.

We ask a hell of a lot of people about their beauty routines, their favorite products, their secrets, their signatures, but it often ends in a list—‘I’ve tried this, I just bought that.’ And we get it: we don’t have a decisive, live-or-die beauty routine either—we’re trying a different moisturizer every week. Beth Buccini, though, isn’t experimenting anymore. She knows what works—the woman has been using the same hairdresser to cut her signature pixie cut for the last 25 years, for goodness sake. (There isn’t a single thing in our lives that we’ve hung onto for 25 years.) As the founder and CEO of Kirna Zabête—a business she’s been running for 18 years, FYI—she has a good amount of experience discovering the very best.

“I usually use a Nars tinted moisturizer. I love Clé de Peau concealer.”

“I use the Nars Kohliner on the inside of my eyes to make them seem a little more open—I always think the older I get, the more open I need my eyes to look. And a Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler. There is a new Laura Mercier fine black liner—you can't even tell you have eyeliner on, but, again, I think it opens the eyes.”

Nars Kohliner, $26

“I love an eyebrow pencil and use Laura Mercier. Then I switch lip glosses and lipsticks all the time: between Nars, Bobbi Brown, and Smith & Cult.”

“With short hair, the eyebrow maintenance is crucial! I only allow the genius Maribeth Madron at Sharon Dorram Sally Hershberger to touch my brows. She shapes and tints them every 6 weeks and I won’t even touch them in between visits.”

“I love red, if you haven't picked up on that! This is a Smith & Cult color, which I really like. I usually do Smith & Cult, Deborah Lippmann, or Nars. Those are my three nail go-tos.”

Smith & Cult Nail Polish, $18

“I used to have long sorority hair, which looked so bad on me because I have fine hair. When I was still a fashion editor, Garren’s assistant at the time was like, ‘This hair does not work with your look, we are changing this!’ The first thing he did was take me to Cleopatra or Louis Brooks. I had the heavy bang and the little bob. That was fun for a while. Then he said, ‘We are going to go even shorter.’ His name is Louis Angelo, and now he is at Julien Farel and still cuts my hair. He has been cutting my hair for twenty-two years! It's such an easy haircut, the only maintenance is that you have to go every six weeks to get it cut.”

“I wash my hair pretty much every day. Then it's, like, thirty seconds: I comb it with a little Oribe Volumizing Spray, blow-dry it for a second, and it’s done. It is so low-maintenance.”

“I always love the French pharmacy finds. Now you can buy so many of them on Amazon or Violet Grey. I particularly like the facial lotion Embryolisse, the makeup remover Bioderma, and the spray body oil Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse.”

Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre, $28

“I discovered Buly on a buying trip to Paris and fell in love immediately. I am obsessed with all their products. The history, the packaging, and the quality are all astounding!”

“Over the summer, I discovered Cayli Cavaco Reck’s amazing beauty store, Knockout Beauty, in the Hamptons. She now has a new store on the Upper East Side. Her edit is perfection. She introduced me to Joanna Vargas’ Forever Glow Anti-Aging Mask, which does wonders for my skin, and Serge Normant’s Meta Lush Volumizer, which adds the right amount of poof to my hair.”

“I often find great products at Min on Crosby Street in Soho. I have a Spring/Summer perfume called Cozumel from them, and a Fall/Winter perfume called Cuir Fauve. They are wonderful at helping you pick your signature fragrances.”

“I also love BeautyCounter products and I swear by their Nourishing Cream Cleanser, Charcoal Cleansing Bar, and Hydrating Face Oil. I like to mix the oil in with my tinted moisturizer for an extra glow.”

BeautyCounter Hydrating Face Oil, $68

“My dermatologist, Dr. Gervaise Gerstner, has me using SkinMedica HA 5 moisturizer and SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum and her own eye cream.”

SkinMedica HA 5 Rejuvinating Moisturizer, $98

“I visit an amazing woman named Sally Kravich who has been immensely helpful to me over the last 10 years. I went to her after my third child was born and I felt perpetually run-down and was constantly fighting colds. She helped me replenish my body with nutrition and supplements and I’ve counted on her ever since. She had me juicing 10 years ago before it became so popular! I said to her, ‘I know I have a very busy and full life, but I love it this way and I even want to have a fourth child, so please help me get healthy again.’ She explained that after having 3 kids in 3 years and nursing them all, I had basically depleted my body of every essential vitamin and mineral. So for the last 10 years I’ve regularly taken probiotics, vitamins B, C, and D, and calcium. I tweak the routine a little depending on the seasons and how I am feeling.”
