Mary Alice Malone and Roy Luwolt

Designers. London.

The first thing you notice when meeting Mary Alice Malone and Roy Luwolt is… everything. Alone, the designers are each larger-than-life, decked out in the most unusual outfits, and they radiate confidence, creativity, and over-the-top enthusiasm. Together, they’re an absolute force (consider also that Malone is a champion mixed martial artist…). As best friends, roommates, and business partners (and no, they are not romantically involved) you can tell theirs was a match made in design and sartorial heaven.

Which brings us to their closet. Because they share one giant one in their London flat. The duo behind luxury shoe brand Malone Souliers has a predictably insane shoe collection—from Mary Alice’s (or M.A., as she goes by) jewel tone pumps and mules from her own collection, to Roy’s Haider Ackermann boots. But then beyond that, there’s the outerwear. Oh, boy, the outerwear. More of it than we’ve maybe ever seen in any closet, and with pieces like fringed Burberry jackets to rare denim finds.

The duo, who also make the footwear for brands like Roksanda, Pringle of Scotland, and Adam Lippes, and collaborated with Natalia Vodianova on styles for her Naked Heart Foundation, gamely played dress up—Roy often excitedly helping M.A. choose from her incredible collection of rare designer pieces—while we explored every inch of the top-floor flat, which was in and of itself incredible. Which is, more is more. If you like one thing, collect all the things—from denim to sunglasses to shoes to coats, Malone and Luwolt’s closet was in a word: epic.
