Candice Huffine

Model. New York

Every Cov closet has an origin story—as in there’s a history before we even set foot in our subject's home. Often that history looks something like Internet stalking (we swear it’s not), but the best is when the spark happens IRL, as was the case with Candice Huffine, who we were lucky enough to meet in Milan at the launch of the 2015 Pirelli calendar. Huffine was the first plus ever to grace its pages, and, well, we were pretty excited to meet her.

Turns out our feelings were mutual, but as these things go (the schedules of models, guys—Candice admitted to us that she never knows what she’s doing even a week ahead of time), it wasn’t until last week that we finally found ourselves fulfilling our promise to Coveteur her. And was she ever ready for us. Huffine must have heard something about us and food, because the cookie spread she had waiting upon our arrival gave us the jolt we needed after a long day of shoots. Plus, they were cut and iced to look like shoes—and really, how perfect is that?

We mean, knowing that Carine Roitfeld, Steven Meisel and Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele count her among their favorite models, we guessed she was a pro. But Huffine is such a model, in the truest sense of the word, that she had us forgetting about our wrap time. After we’d popped a bottle of Veuve and eaten our way through way more than our fair share of cookies, while chatting about beauty lessons (it’s all about the brows), her experience as a plus-size model (aren’t we over that label yet?) and her obsession with Pat McGrath (she’s glorious), she took us around her neighborhood for a guerilla modeling sesh on the Manhattan streets. Let’s just say we totally agree with Carine and Steven when it comes to Huffine being our favorite.
