In case you haven’t come to recognize from our millions of not-so-subtle dropped hints, the majority of us who work for TC are, in fact, Canadian. Yes—we come from the land of maple syrup, extra-long winters (currently suffering over here!) and the two Ryans (Gosling, Reynolds). Our problem is that the majority of our prodigious talent—Drake, Erdem, Taylor Kitsch (?)—tend to, well, ship out pretty quick. Case in point? Calla Haynes, the whimsical, print-happy designer, who ditched Toronto to live the artist’s dream life in Paris—and like the aforementioned Canadians, we can’t help but call out that she’s one of our own.

And so, arriving at her apartment in the Third Arrondissement was just a little bit comforting—you know, what with Haynes’ familiar accent and our personal obsessions with both her eccentrically printed separates and her Insta-famous Chow Chow, Lilybear. “We’re always together,” Haynes laughed as we baby-talked at her dog. “She gets about three times as much love on my Instagram then anything related to fashion, so it seemed natural that she would become the official mascot of my brand.”

That said, Haynes isn’t exactly hurting in the fashion department either. On top of her joyously fun clothing line (stocked at Printemps, Avenue 32 and Harvey Nichols among others), the designer has her fair share of Parisian collectibles. Once we got down to the business of going through her closet, it took us no time at all to dig up a lacey Carven dress, a flowing Nina Ricci frock from Olivier Theyskens’ day, a striped Lahssan trench and a envy-inducing collection of CHANEL camellia cocktail rings. But we couldn’t help but note that touch of Canadiana, from a Hudson’s Bay blanket bag to a Toronto Blue Jays cap—then again, the latter’s the kind of thing we’d only love beyond our own borders.
