The Best British Beauty Products

Boots No7. Lisa Eldridge. Charlotte Tilbury. Berocca, for goodness' sake! With the beauty world's recent predilection for everything from 12-step Korean skincare routines to French pharmacie fanatics, it admittedly baffles us how British cult classics have, comparatively, somehow been left under the radar. While we've (thankfully) come to accept the fact that leaving the house sans dry shampoo or wearing Wellies when it's not really raining is more of a British birthright than a trend to try (read that in your best Us Weekly-voice, guys), that doesn't mean we can't hit up Amazon for a little Vogue UK-approved Brit beauty.

And so, in the interest of getting in touch with our inner Chung and Delevingne, we reached out to Vogue.co.uk Beauty Editor Lisa Niven to spill some of the best British beauty goodies currently populating her make-up bag. True to form, Niven came back to us with a list of everything from truly under-the-radar picks to products you can impulse buy Stateside, too. Oh, and before you raise your eyebrows at the suggestion of a child's detangling brush, we're happy to go on-the-record and state that our Tangle Teezers have gotten us out of many a rat's nest with ease—you know those 'what did I do last night?' Saturday mornings? Buy now and thank us when you've saved yourself the half-bottle of conditioner.

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara
"With products as clever, hard-working and vivacious as the she is—and as anybody who knows her will testify, that’s a lot—makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury’s eponymous brand pays tribute to an extensive list of celebrity clients including Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Cara Delevingne and Penelope Cruz. Lip and cheek colours are long-lasting and highly pigmented, foundations velvet-soft, but the stand-out is the Full Fat Lashes Mascara, which does just about everything you could ever ask a mascara to do."
Tangle Teezer
"For those with scalps so sensitive that they literally shed tears when having their hair washed in the salon, Tangle Teezers are an absolute essential—I have different ones for my desk, home and travel kit to ensure I’m never without one. They detangle wet or dry hair without pulling, snagging or tearing, and the ergonomic design makes them quick and easy to use—I honestly don’t think I know a single person who doesn’t love them. They’re now sold all over the world, but still manufactured here in the UK."
Topshop Make-Up Lips in Rio Rio
"Topshop is arguably one of the best things that has ever come out of England, and fortunately the makeup is just as good as the clothes. The packaging is simple and cute, the colours are spot-on and the formulas are long-lasting—the lipstick in Rio Rio is pretty much the perfect red."
Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
"I could write a poem about how much I love Cleanse & Polish and I’m not the only one—this product has won more awards than our country’s sports teams combined (probably). All of Liz Earle’s products are amazing but the brand only makes one cleanser—and you can see why. The plant-based formula is applied onto dry skin, wiped off with a muslin cloth—that’s the “Polish” part—leaving you with squeaky-clean, baby-soft skin."
Neom Real Luxury Scented Candle – 3-Wick
Neom candles are 100% natural and organic, made from delicious-smelling essential oils and with great scent combinations like Sicilian lemon and fresh basil, white neroli, mimosa and lemon and lavender, jasmine and Brazilian rosewood. Even the packaging is calming, and the three-wick option is perfect for larger rooms or outdoors—basically the fragrance of the smaller ones, times three.
Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat
"London is fit to burst with fantastic nail brands, but Butter London is one of the best. The polishes are free of nail nasties like toluene and formaldehyde, come in an extensive range of brilliant colours and make you want to be the person whose job it is to come up with the names—Cor Blimey, Cake-Hole and Dodgy Barnett are among the most bizarre. The Nail Foundation base coat is gorgeous enough to be worn alone—it literally makes nails look as if they’ve been airbrushed—but it also makes for a great stain-resistant canvas underneath your regular polish."
Neal’s Yard Beauty Sleep Concentrate
"Born in London’s famous Covent Garden back in 1981, Neal’s Yard Remedies is one of the UK’s pioneering organic-based beauty brands thanks to its heavenly-smelling, highly effective products. Offering fantastic formulas for hair, face and body, everything is packaged in pretty apothecary-style blue glass packaging and chock-full of skin-loving essential oils, flower extracts and other wild ingredients. The Beauty Sleep Concentrate is a true crowd-pleaser—lightweight, easily-absorbed and capable of making you look like you’ve had your full eight hours, whether it’s true or not."
Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner
"By focusing on one feature—the eyes—Eyeko knows what it does well and runs with it. The mascaras come in sweet squeezy tubes, the eyeshadow pens are as easy to use as crayons and the Eye Do eyeliner is utterly foolproof. Eyeko also boasts Brit girl Alexa Chung as a creative consultant—and having seen her in action, I can tell you that she does a speedy, precise cat eye like nobody else."
