Joie de vivre, or the enjoyment of life, was the theme behind Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2017 beauty. The brightly hued eye makeup was created to celebrate color, the joy of living, and to serve as the perfect backdrop against Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s debut collection for Oscar de la Renta. Three exciting colorways—sherbet orange, sky blue, and lavender—were chosen for each girl and applied to models’ eyelids along with a streak of hot-pink eyeliner while the rest of the makeup was kept the same. Because “even if we are a different color, we end up being the same,” Tom Pecheux, lead makeup artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics, explained backstage. Amongst all the gut-wrenching news headlines recently, at the very least this beautifully bright rainbow-makeup look (and the subtle statement behind it) is a nice reminder that it’s not all bad.
