Yesterday, the day arrived that we imagine Kim Kardashian has been mentally preparing for for some time. Emerging at the Voltaire courthouse in Paris, the reality star climbed the steps of the courthouse ahead of her testimony against the armed robbers who allegedly broke into her hotel room, restrained her, and stole over $9 million worth of diamond jewelry in 2016.

Surrounded by hoards of journalists and photographers, Kardashian ascended the steps of the historic site wearing an archival power skirt suit from John Galliano's Spring/Summer 1995 collection, and dripping in so many diamonds that the statement made itself. Around her neck was an eye-watering Samer Halimeh necklace, alongside a diamond anklet, and a stack of Repossi and Briony Raymond earrings.

Court room style amongst celebrities has always been a well-covered topic. Take, Gwyneth Paltrow's skiing accident trial, where she became a beacon of the quiet luxury movement through her camel coats and roll-neck sweatshirts as an example. Or Martha Stewart's shameless and consistent Birkin-wearing throughout her court case for tax fraud. It was not so many months ago that A$AP Rocky attended his trial in Los Angeles—for two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm—in a collection of perfectly tailored designer suits.

It makes sense that Kardashian would make a style moment out of this occasion, after all, she was freshly attending Paris Fashion Week when the robbery occurred, the highly publicized crime forever affecting her relationship to the city, and her relationship to jewelry. On an episode of The Kardashians in 2023, the mogul opened up about her complicated feelings towards jewelry when Dolce & Gabanna gifted her a diamond cross necklace. "After I was robbed in Paris, I haven't bought jewelry," revealed Kardashian. "I haven't really been about wearing jewelry, because when it was taken from me, it was such a—I didn't know I was ready for that experience and what that meant, but I was. I was ready to, like, give it up."

The trial continues until May 23, the details of which will be unveiled in the next series of The Kardashians.
