Suki Waterhouse & Poppy Jamie Are Best Friends On A Mission
The duo open to to Coveteur about how they met, sharing clothes and spreading joy with their gratitude app.

Like many good female friendships, the bond between Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie was forged on the dance floor. The then-expats first copped eyes on each other at a club in West Hollywood in their early 20s, and never looked back.
Over the years, model, musician, and new mom Waterhouse and author, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate Jamie have had to juggle everything that life in the fast lane throws at them. It's what led them to create WithGratitude, a serotonin-boosting app that encourages users to both appreciate the beauty of day-to-day life, and stay connected with loved ones whom they share their daily lists with. “I’m so excited for everyone to use it,” Jamie tells Coveteur. “I know how much it’s impacted and improved my life. And it's free! It’s such a delight that we can offer this as a free thing to people.”
With such busy respective schedules—Waterhouse just released a deluxe version of her acclaimed album Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, while London-based Jamie is podcasting and running a start-up—we were grateful to steal some time to hear what’s keeping smiles on their faces for 2025 and beyond.
Coveteur: You met about 12 years ago randomly in LA—what drew you to each other and how did you become best friends?
Suki Waterhouse: "God, I can’t believe it’s that long ago…that’s wild. We had a lot of friends in common but had never met. We were both dancing at an after party at Teddy’s nightclub at The Hollywood Roosevelt. We met, and that was it. Neither of us really had a lot of close friends in LA. I hadn’t had a new best friend since primary school, either. We became each other’s grown-up best friends."
Do you remember what each other was wearing when you met?
Poppy Jamie: "Yes! Suki was wearing this unbelievable pink outfit. Weren’t you wearing that gorge pink dress…was it Oscar de la Renta?"
SW: "Emilia Wickstead! I think I’d been to an Emilia Wickstead party of some sort. I looked like a teacup that night."
PJ: "I had this tiny car. I gave her a lift home and we had to shovel her into the car in this gorgeous dress. The car was so un-gorgeous. I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, I feel so sorry for my new fab friend who’s trying to fit her dress into my miniscule car.’"
Instant friendship! Congrats on the app, WithGratitude. How does writing these lists help you face the world each day?
SW: "WithGratitude was born out of having friends far away from me who are going through really difficult things, and feeling like I wanted to be there for them every day. I had the idea pretty randomly. I was quite surprised with how everyone really stuck to it. I don’t know about you, but I kind of struggle to keep up with rituals by myself. I don’t go to church every weekend and I’m terrible at meditating. Because this was reciprocal, I feel like there’s a natural curiosity [to hear from] the people you love. It gives me a chance to witness their lives incrementally each day and to hear what they’re going through. The lists are always so rich and full of life. I’m truly so excited to read them every day, and it keeps me going every day. I love to see what the people I love are grateful for."

Are you good at sticking to rituals, Poppy?
PJ: "This practice of finding 10 good things to be grateful for is probably the only thing I do without fail. To add to Suki’s point, it’s so easy to think about all the things that are going wrong, but this forces you to change your perspective. It wasn’t until month three or four that I realized it was changing the way I approached everything. I now have a sense of calm and it’s stopped me from feeling overwhelmed—I know something good is going to come eventually. Along with that, getting outside and walking first thing in the morning and getting sunlight on my face is so important. I’ll do my list on my walk. I love that you can double up. It takes one minute, and you’ve done something good for your brain and connected with a friend, which is good for your heart."
SW: "Poppy is the much more structured one. She’s better at being regimented with rituals in her life. Whenever we hang out, I feel like I’m transformed. She’ll make sure I get out of the house. She doesn’t let me lie in bed! She’ll make me do a wind-down if we’re on a trip too. I think Poppy is one of the rare people that is so resilient. I struggle to ever find something that she doesn’t have a positive outlook on."
On the note of structure—what kind of dresser are you both in the morning? Do you plan ahead or go with the flow on the day?
SW: "I am probably more like a ‘grab the nearest thing and go’ kind of person. But getting dressed in the morning is something that really excites me. Especially being in New York for the past while. New York is my favorite place to get dressed every day for—I find my game goes up here. My clothes have been witness to so much of my life, too. They go everywhere with me; we’re chasing my dreams together. There’s some items of clothes that I’ve had forever. I think having these different characters in my mind and feeling put together in my pieces always enhances my day."
PJ: "If there’s something I’m really looking forward to, I’ll plan my outfit for it. I grew up in the countryside, so the one thing I really love about cities is the opportunity to dress up more. Particularly when you have those moments that you’re looking forward to getting dressed for, like going out dancing. If it’s not that, I have to say, I look pretty much the same every single day. I’m kind of one extreme or the other. My mum always says, ‘You look like you’ve been taken through a hedge backwards, or you’re really presentable. There’s no middle ground!’"
SW: "Poppy is always out walking and she’s really good at creating outfits that she could have gone on an hour’s walk in, and then gone to an exercise class, and then still look perfect for a meeting afterwards because she didn't go home in between."

Suki, your coat game on Instagram has been so good lately. Is that your armor of choice these days?
SW: "Coats have always been my thing. I think that with the first paycheck I ever got, I bought a bunch of coats. I remember I had a Sonia Rykiel coat from my local vintage store in Chiswick in London that I wore so much that it actually just turned into pieces of material. I kept a bag with the, like, nine pieces of cloth that it turned into. I don’t particularly care about shoes or bags as much as I care about coats."
What about you Poppy?
PJ: "…Wired headphones? [Laughs while holding up tangled wires.] This is my life, my look."
SW: "I think you’re a dress person. You look so fab in a long slip dress. You’re always sourcing things from vintage stores. Poppy is such an amazing communicator. I never know how she does it but she’ll have gotten into some rare vintage store in LA that no one else knows about and been like ‘Oh you know….’ She always finds incredible things."
PJ: "I do love Réalisation Par too, in terms of ‘normsy’ non-vintage brands. I’m genuinely quite practical and I find that long dresses are the ultimate piece. Summer, winter, boots, tights, heels: there’s so many different ways you can wear them. Especially if I’m traveling a lot. I always try to put everything into my hand luggage because I have a big fear of losing a suitcase. You can fit like 20 slip dresses in your hand luggage and always know you have enough looks for two weeks."
SW: "I’m actually grieving! I was on the way to Spain recently to do a job and I left...I still can’t even believe this…but I left a coat by The Row behind on the flight."
[Poppy gasps]
SW: "I’m going to use this opportunity to shout out to Iberia [airline]…my jacket is lost! I know the jacket was there. I spoke to them immediately, but somehow, it hasn’t been sent back and they now say that they don’t have it."
PJ: "Didn’t you have an amazing coat from someone in the past?"
SW: "Audrey Hepburn’s coat!"
PJ: "Ugh…it was so good."
WithGratitude is all about sharing your lists with friends. Do you share clothes?
SW: "Yes we do for sure."
PJ: "Suki is so generous with her clothes. She has the most incredible wardrobe because of all her history in fashion. And all her stage outfits! It’s everything I could ever want to wear if I’m going to a music festival. I don’t have a sister, so I’m so grateful for her generosity."
Suki: We absolutely share stuff all the time. Poppy gave me a gym kit recently when we were traveling. Poppy will always be like, ‘Come on, get your gym kit on, we're going for a workout.’
Big picture wise, what are you most grateful for in 2025 and what’s to come?
SW: "The app is all about marking the small things. I’m excited to be able to look back at the end of this year at every day and go over the difficult times and the wins. It deepens the perspective. What I’m excited for this year is really to go all in with work, feel the creative force that can be within me, and my little mini-me. It’s my dream to really focus on my next album."
PJ: "I’m so grateful to our tech partners who have built the most beautiful and easy to use app that just makes this daily ritual so fun and simple. Every single day when I wake up and read my friends’ lists, it keeps me connected to their lives. I’ve had a challenging beginning to the year and I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without this ritual that has brought me back to myself and my friends. Our ability to choose a healthy perspective, regardless of what the year throws at us, and stay connected to friends [is everything]."
What are some style resolutions you’ve made for the year—how do you want to feel in your clothes?
SW: "I want to be dressing to a ten. To the max. I want to be turning up to the studio every day in a full look. I was at a max yesterday—this morning I’ve fallen off, but I’m going to the studio after this and I’m going to turn it up. With the moodboard that’s in my mind for my next album, I have to embrace it and be living it. I want to be in thigh-high boots, huge coats, in the studio ten hours a day. Just be feeling like….Rihanna! That’s where my style goals are for the year."
PJ: "I want to keep my eyebrows looking great all year. I think eyebrows are so under-appreciated. If you have blonde hair they’re a nightmare, if I forget to care for them, they disappear…"
SW: "But what about clothes!?"
PJ: "Oh. Clothes aspirations…probably going back to slip dresses. I think I need to double down on sexy slip dresses. I love dressing sexy."
SW: "I thought you were going to be a sexy librarian this year?"
PJ: "Oh yes. I do have my glasses! I’ll wear them with my wired headphones. [Laughs.]"
