I had a breakfast meeting this morning and stood in front of my closet for a significant amount of time before deciding on a pair of suit pants and a really good jacket. As fall has settled upon us and we've begun to adjust our wardrobes accordingly, I personally am struggling to create formulas that are both weather-appropriate and feel inspired. But if there's one thing that the Fall/Winter 2026 runways reminded us of back in February, it's that it doesn't always need to be all that complicated, after all.

A good day suit is not a wardrobe staple to be underestimated, and in an increasingly noisy industry, we often forget about the power of the humble blazer and pants or blazer and skirt combination. But there's a reason why the suit is a corporate staple, and in the last decade, it's gotten the fashion treatment. For Fall/Winter 2026, the sentiment feels as accurate as ever, only with new seasonal updates to keep things contemporary.

The biggest update the new suit has seen is in the silhouette. Once as oversized as possible, the 2026 suit has been adapted for an increasingly "skinny" approach. The runways have been offering up silhouettes that stay close to the body, lately—skinny jeans, skin-tight dresses, shrink-wrapped boots—and the same goes in the suit department.

At Acne Studios, Dior, and Jil Sander FW26, skinny suit pants were paired with blazers that were nipped to the body. Dior's Jonathan Anderson played with mandarin collars and ample button closures, while at Jil Sander, it was all about Simone Belotti's new take on minimalism. Over at Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, and Khaite, Miuccia Prada, Anthony Vaccarello, and Catherine Holstein respectively played with proportion, and offered ways to make a classic suit interesting. At Miu Miu, it was via empire waist blazers with matching pants that unbuttoned at the hems. Simple chocolate and black smoking suits were spotted at Saint Laurent with ultra-raised shoulders for dramatic effect. And rich black velvet double-breasted suits at Khaite with seriously high necklines and trinkets swinging from pockets.

Elsewhere at Ferragamo, Maximillian Davis showed skirt suits that were reconstructed via buttons to expose skin where the wearer wants; dark navy and cream wool against black buttons gave the skirt suit a fresh feel, as did Simone Bellotti at Jil Sander, where he sent purple marle collarless blazers and matching skirts down his FW26 runway.

We are particularly drawn to the skinnier, streamlined suits this season, dressed up with shirts that offer a pop of color underneath or the perfect court shoe to add to the feeling of being put together. Below, find some of our favorite suits of the season.
