Since I was a teenager, the hunt for the perfect pair of vintage Levi's has never quite evaded me. I once found them. A pair of women's 505s that my best friend gave me, and I have thrashed so badly that there is a hole in the crotch and one in the thigh. They are still my favorites, but ideally I'd have a pair in every wash, and I fear that they are reaching the end of their life.
The thing that makes those 505s so special? They are a straight, slim leg with a mid rise and the perfect wash of vintage blue. They hit the floor—but only just, so there is no cuffing required. The cut elongates my legs in a way that feels timeless and put together while also being slightly sexy, and as denim trends fluctuate between low rise, boot cut, and baggy styles, I'm returning to my faithful straight legs this summer as the perfect summer jean.

BackgridAnd I'm not the only one! Plenty of our favorite style stars have been spotted in the style in recent months, from Kendall Jenner in a black pair, and Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber in more classic washes, respectively.

BackgridFor a while, a baggy jean was my go-to. The relaxed silhouette made me feel casual and masculine in a way I enjoyed, but as the skinny jean prepares for its return and low-rise cuts aren't going anywhere, there is something about a simple, mid-to-low rise straight leg jean that just hits every time. If you're debating which denim silhouette to add to your rotation next, see our favorite straight leg jeans, below.
