Remember tomato girl summer and the "pop of red" trends back in 2023? If so, I hope you've still got your red pieces on hand, because it would seem that the official color of summer 2025 is poppy red—inspired by the wildflower, it's a bright and bold crimson, with just a tinge of orange.
During the Fall/Winter 2025 shows earlier this year, red was color blocked throughout the collections, and now, as Resort 2026 campaigns start to come through, the theme continues at Balenciaga, Valentino, and Gabriella Hearst, where bright red ensembles are threaded through neutral collections and introduced as a season staple. In years past, the shade was incorporated more sparingly; this summer, the shade is taking over the entire look.

Ayo Edebriri stepped out in a poppy red Jacquemus jersey mini dress with her dog, Gromit, in Los Angeles this week. The simple black accessories keep the look feeling elevated and elegant.

On a more casual front, Alana Haim has been incorporating the shade into her everyday wardrobe, pairing a poppy red tank and faded black denim.

There 's something so refreshing about seeing such a vivid color be blocked out this way, like Zoe Saldaña recently did when she stepped out in New York earlier this month wearing a Gia Studios ensemble. Instead of girly pops of the shade through a sock or a handbag, wearing the bright red hue head to toe gives things a more grown-up feeling. It feels bold to wear a color this bright instead of letting it wear you. Adding one piece with a slightly cooler undertone feels unexpected and keeps it all from feeling too matchy-matchy.

The best part is that red doesn't have to feel overly dressy, either. Paired with a white pump or flat, like Kaia Gerber does above with a vintage sundress, things feel very approachable and daytime, especially when accessories are scaled back to let the color do the talking.
A sense of modernity is injected into the way celebrities are wearing the trend by leaving their hair casual and loose, with minimal bling and understated footwear. While white gives things a more fresh, daytime approach, black and red footwear immediately dress it up for nighttime.
