The air is crisp, fashion week has obliterated my social battery, and the country is calling my name. It’s relationship-hard-launch-with-a-weekend-trip-upstate season, and the supreme location to Instagram your new boo is Piaule Catskill. Okay, this might be dramatic, but when I need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, there are few hotels at which I’d rather decompress upstate than Piaule—single or not.

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes, Piaule emerges as a haven of tranquility, offering an unparalleled retreat for weary New Yorkers seeking respite from the city. While Piaule may be relatively new on the scene, its allure is undeniable, drawing guests into a world where mid-century-modern sophistication seamlessly blends with the rustic beauty of upstate New York. Piaule is more than just a hotel—it's an experience waiting to be savored. Few hotels in this area have spa amenities quite like Piaule; I would go so far as to crown it the best spa retreat in all of upstate New York.

The heart of Piaule unveils a sanctuary where wellness intertwines seamlessly with nature's embrace. The spa, a cornerstone of relaxation and renewal, beckons guests with its promise of serenity and indulgence. As the crisp air swirls outside, guests are enveloped in warmth and comfort within the spa's sanctuary. Encased in glass in the winter and open air in the spring, summer, and fall, the crown jewel of the spa is the hot mineral bath that offers a panoramic vista of the ever-changing landscape.

Beyond the hot bath, Piaule boasts a tapestry of wellness offerings designed to nourish the mind, body, and soul with the bounty of the area’s natural resources. From rejuvenating massages to holistic treatments inspired by ancient rituals, the spa's menu invites guests on a journey of self-discovery and renewal. Cold plunge, an even colder ice-cold plunge, sauna, steam room, yoga classes, and facials—the sanctuary’s offering rivals that of any luxury spa. The panoramic stunning views of the changing seasons distinguish the experience.

A highlight of Piaule's spa experience is its bespoke line of towels and robes, revered by guests for their unparalleled quality and comfort. Crafted from the finest materials and adorned with exquisite details, these coveted essentials evoke a sense of luxury and sophistication, transforming every moment into a lavish indulgence. The best part? They’re available to purchase—bring a piece of the relaxing experience home with you. Piaule’s signature lotion, shampoo, and conditioner smell so scrumptious that you’d be remiss not to snag your own bottle from the gift shop.

While upstate, venture over to the outdoor center Storm King. If the weather is nice, it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon gawking at sculptures strewn over acres of land. If the weather isn’t cooperating (in temperamental North East fashion), Dia Beacon is the contemporary art gallery and cultural hot spot for visitors to spend an indoor afternoon. While in Beacon, stop by All You Knead, my favorite bakery to grab a treat at while strolling the quaint blocks.

Closer to Piaule in Hudson, you can find adorable gift shops and restaurants dotting the shopping of Warren Street. Grab vintage clothing, antiques, or even some wellness goodies to extend the benefit of using the valley’s bountiful natural resources for your health. My personal favorite way to spend a full day is walking through the massive Hudson Valley Antique center, which is where lots of overpriced vintage furniture sellers source their items for cheaper to bring back to the city. They have clothes, books, art, and furniture—a vintage lover's paradise.

An ideal weekend upstate involves a little bit of vintage, a whole lot of relaxation, and some time well spent with yourself or your loved ones. Enjoy the benefits of the Catskills, from the relaxing vistas to the delicious food, all while staying at a home base with a spa that will set your soul on fire. In the realm of wellness retreats, Piaule stands as a beacon of excellence, offering a sanctuary where time stands still amidst the beauty of Upstate New York. As the seasons change and the world continues to evolve, Piaule remains a timeless haven, inviting guests to embark on a journey of self-discovery and renewal, one tranquil moment at a time.
