Just a few miles from the red-carpet foot traffic of the 78th Cannes Film Festival where Nouvelle Vague, Die My Love, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had their premieres, Nicole Kidman made a quieter entrance at The Majestic Hotel’s black carpet for the Kering Women in Motion talk wearing head-to-toe Balenciaga.
Her look was a drastic pivot from the lace red dress she changed into later that evening. At a festival where the strict dress code leans ultra-formal, Kidman's choice to show up to a Cannes-adjacent event in oversized black jeans serves as a reminder that Kidman is always one for a sartorial risk, and that you can wear jeans to Cannes—especially when you're the woman of the hour.
Kidman opted for a structured calfskin leather corset jacket with curved waistband jeans straight from Demna’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, which debuted during Paris Fashion Week. For the occasion, she dressed it up with satin knife pumps and a polished leather belt.
Kidman has had a longstanding relationship with the French couture house, with pivotal moments spanning years back when she was named the brand ambassador in 2023 and walked the Fall/Winter 2022 haute couture runway show. For last year’s Met Gala, she worked with Demna to re-create a Cristóbal Balenciaga 1950s couture gown that she wore on the steps in 2024. In 2025, Kidman attended the Met in a tailored black fit-and-flare dress with a drop-waist silhouette and bow details from the house that has ties to Balenciaga’s archives.
The actor attended Kering Women in Motion dinner—an event celebrating the contributions of women in the industry who’ve made a significant impact on film, both on and off the screen—where she received the 2025 Women in Motion award to celebrate her influential acting career, spanning her myriad work in film and television.
The Festival de Cannes and Kering Instagram’s wrote in a joint post: “A major figure in cinema, Nicole Kidman has built a career marked as much by her artistic audacity as by her virtuosity and transformative portrayals that have reshaped the representation of women on screen. From Eyes Wide Shut and The Hours to Big Little Lies and Babygirl, her work reflects a deep commitment to bold, uncompromising storytelling…For this 10th anniversary edition of Women In Motion, Kering is honored to recognize a woman who fully embodies the spirit of the program—and stands as a powerful illustration of its mission over the past decade.”
