We Tried It: An Air Purifier That’s Actually Chic

While aesthetics aren’t everything, they definitely don’t hurt. In collaboration with Molekule.

We Tried It: An Air Purifier That’s Actually Chic

As Art Director for Coveteur, aesthetics are everything. I don’t put things in my house unless I love looking at them. Which is great, but it means I do things that other people might feel are unreasonable, like drive four hours to pick up a side table I found on the internet. It’s also why I’ve never given air purifiers a chance; I haven’t come across one I could live with.

Until, that is, I was given the opportunity to try out the Molekule Air Pro. The unit is sleek and cylindrical, and I was curious to see how it would visually integrate into my home. My Joshua Tree retreat, Cielo Ranch, seemed like the perfect place to put it to the test.

Based between Venice Beach and the desert, I use Cielo Ranch to escape the city life and find a quiet place to focus and get creative. On my last trip, I packed up the Molekule Air Pro in my truck and headed out of Los Angeles. It’s a two-and-a-half-hour drive from my house, right at the end of a dirt road. These roads kick up a lot of fine dust every time a car rolls by, so it’s a never-ending battle to keep things clean and dust-free.

The Strong (Nearly) Silent Type

The Molekule Air Pro is a high-performing air purifier engineered with innovative PECO technology that targets particles at a molecular level. It goes beyond standard HEPA filters, eliminating allergens, pet dander, dust particles, mold, bacteria, and viruses. Sound-wise, one of the main reasons I come out to the desert is for the peace and quiet. Molekule’s Air Pro purifier operates at a noise level of 30-65 decibels, depending on the fan speed setting. It has a particulate sensor with automatic fan speed adjustment, but you can also manually change the fan speed. At its lowest speed setting, the noise level is comparable to a whisper; at its highest, it’s akin to the sound of normal conversation. The unit also features both standard Auto Protect mode, which automatically adjusts the fan speed depending on chemical and particle detection, and quiet mode, which runs at a low noise level to avoid disturbing sleep, making it suitable for use in bedrooms and other quiet spaces up to 1000 square feet. Structurally, Molekule offers three layers of protection: activated carbon filtration, HEPA filtration, and PECO technology. True HEPA captures 99.97% of small particles, while light-activated PECO technology destroys organic pollutants, and a carbon layer removes odors and gases.

Living—and Breathing—Easy

After using the Molekule Air Pro for a week, I could feel the improvement in my air quality and actually see the difference in the level of dust in my home. With people coming in and out of the house, desert dirt gets tracked in easily, so using Molekule as an extra layer of particle clean-up was great. Aside from humans, another culprit forever tracking in dirt is my dog, Kilo. Not only does he come in and out of the house all day with dirty paws, but he brings a fair amount of pet dander along with him. Before using Molekule, I didn’t even realize what it would be like to have pet dander removed from your house. I am never going back. Hopefully, we will have a mild fire season in California this year, but I will be ready with Molekule if we have smoky skies.

Overall, the PECO technology inside the air purifier seems to have done its job, because I’m happy to report that I’m officially a California cowgirl—without the dirt and dust.

A Fresh Perspective

I’ve avoided buying an air purifier in the past because I couldn’t find one that aesthetically matched my house and didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. I wanted something chic that would actually work. After I unpacked the unit, I was surprised by how well it fit in with my other house decor—it looked like it belonged there. The clean, minimal design integrated seamlessly with my desert abode.Beyond the appearance (ok, fine, aesthetics aren’t everything), I was thankful to have an extra layer of defense against illness-causing particles. My overall health is super important because I work so much. Getting sick really slows me down, and my goal is to operate at 100% brain power every day to execute all of my projects. I am very into Huberman-esque biohacking gadgets, and after learning that the Molekule Air Pro destroys viruses and bacteria, I’ve been running it 24 hours a day on that fact alone.
