FKA Twigs' Met Gala Look Delivered Ultra-Femme Elegance
The songstress skipped suiting in favor of a flapper look that still honored the night's theme.

We're calling it: the theme of the 2025 Met Gala will go down in history as one of the most adhered to in recent memory. Unlike previous years where the exhibition on the red carpet seemed at odds with the actual exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, everyone seemed to understand the theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," as well as the dress code, "Tailored for You." The result was, by and large, a sea of structured looks featuring immaculately fitted suits and menswear-inspired structural gowns. Don't get us wrong, we love to see a cohesive carpet, but we love a look that understands and subverts the assignment even more. We are, of course, talking about FKA Twigs' custom Wales Bonner look.
Twigs' Wales Bonner gown, beautifully accessorized with chandelier earrings, velvet pumps, and a feather shawl, embodied superfine without being super-structured, a refreshing take on the theme that still honored both the era and the fashion risk-takers and tastemakers of the time.
While many of the night's looks paid homage to the menswear of the Harlem Renaissance—an era of Black art, music, and fashion that still reverberates from the 1920s into today—Twigs' look, styled by Carlos Nazario, nodded to the era, but served a less literal interpretation. Rather than sharp suiting and severe angles, Twigs' look flowed—undeniably inspired by the glitter, gauze, and feathery feel of the '20s without veering into the territory of costume or caricature.
Best of all, Twigs' ultra-femme look did what powerful and meaningful fashion is meant to do: subvert our expectations, push the boundaries of what's possible, and, most importantly, take our breath away. In a night of standout looks, that's no small feat.
