Last night was one of the most important nights in fashion for both fans and designers: the CFDA Awards. Held at the Brooklyn Museum for the very first time, the event honored many of the most recognizable and up-and-coming figures in the industry. From Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell to Edward Enninful and Sander Lak—who took home the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent for his label Sies Marjan—it was a star-studded evening to remember. We were lucky enough to hang with two of the most stylish attendees while they prepped for the red carpet—supermodel Lais Ribeiro and designer Carly Cushnie of Cushnie et Ochs, at the latter’s Crown Heights brownstone.
Although it wouldn’t take much to prepare either woman for a night out in New York, there was still a full glam team getting them ready for the awards, including makeup artist Grace Lee and hairstylist Martin-Christopher Harper. In between sips of chilled rosé and Cushnie whipping up a salad and snacks for the crew, we got all the details on their beauty looks, their sparkling accessories, and, of course, their stunning Cushnie et Ochs outfits.

CC: “I think there are a lot of changes going on [in the fashion industry], which is very exciting, but at the same time I feel like people are doing very much their own thing. There’s not one path. Before it was 'This was fashion week and this is what happens.' Now there’s fashion week in June and some people are showing. For an industry that’s always supposed to be forward-thinking in terms of creativity, it was kind of antiquated in the whole way it worked, and then all of a sudden in the last couple of years it feels like everything has sped up.”
