The question of minimalism hangs in the very fibre of Jil Sander. Since Simone Bellotti's appointment at the house (he is now in his third season), the Italian designer has been putting his own code together of what that means in the Jil Sander framework. What might she have done herself, and what might she like to see develop in a contemporary age?

Today at Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2027, Bellotti attacked the question with rigor. His answer? Perfection is seldom a constant. Therefore, true, great minimalism cannot be reached via a pursuit of perfection. Rather, the key is to subvert. He achieved this by creating an undulating collection that departed with restraint. The controlled uniform that is synonymous with the house code, eventually becomes undone via crumpled blazers that gripped torsos, printed two-piece skirt sets, mismatched buttons that skewed collars, and oversized shirts falling off shoulders.

Bellotti understands how to make minimalism feel exciting and desirable without falling on drab silhouettes, and here it was displayed through these odd, off-kilter additions that messed it up a bit. See our favorite looks and accessories, below.

My favorite Jil Sander pieces are always the tailored jackets with micro lapels, so I was happy to see those shapes return this season, alongside collarless leather coat dresses in black and sky blue. Another callout is always the weird-toned tights that add an extra layer to the styling that always feels tonal and desirable.

I loved the bags with bright linings that were almost turned inside out to show the contrasting pop of color, with straps that were placed halfway down the body of the bag for a very modern feel. Over in the shoe department, Bellotti always does a weird little pump, and this season it was in the form of an offbeat sweetheart silhouette on the upper. For flats, leather moccassin, sneaker hybrids caught my eye as a casual fall silhouette (even though this was for spring).
