Forget what they say about a measly three being a trend. What about the entirety of New York Fashion Week? Manhattan's blow-out industry may have at one time had the potential to single-handedly power the entire economy (or at least buy those behind the blowdryers many a $14 Boom Boom Room cocktail), but it's reign might just be coming to an end if the recent runways have anything to say about it.

Case in point? The imperfect, finger-tousled "I barely had time to run finishing cream through my hair and yes I look this good" hair at Narciso Rodriguez. In case the post-Soulcycle ponies at Prabal Gurung or intentionally exaggerated flyaways at 3.1 Phillip Lim didn't hit the nail on the head enough for you already.
An expert in all things masterfully-undone hair herself, we sent our NYFW correspondent (and Cov-alum) Harley Viera-Newton to get to the proverbial bottom of the show's backstage beauty. Here's everything you'll need to know for the next time you need a happy medium between sad, wilted air-dried locks and a glossy Upper East Side blowdry.

The messy wave

You will need...
A spray bottle filled with water

Step 1
Start with freshly washed and dried hair. Using a spray bottle, wet hair down from mid-length to ends and distribute TRESemmé Climate Protection Mousse evenly throughout wet hair.
Step 2
Divide hair into 2-3 loose braids and dry with a diffuser.
Step 3
Undo braids and retouch ends using a medium to large curling iron to define the waves’ shape.
Step 4
Spray TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray all over to prevent damage and use a ceramic-plated straighter, like TRESemmé Salon Professional Flat Iron, around the hairline to achieve a flattering wave.
Step 5
Finish the look with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème.
Step 6
If needed, mist with TRESemmé Climate Protection Finishing Spray for flexible hold.
