Since John Galliano's departure from Maison Margiela last December, and Glenn Martens' anticipated appointment into the creative director role in January of this year, we've all been waiting to know when the Belgian designer will debut his first collection for the house, and today we finally have that answer.

The French maison released a statement confirming that Martens’ debut will take place in July 2025 during couture week.

“Maison Margiela is pleased to announce that creative director Glenn Martens will debut his first collection for the house during the Autumn/Winter 2025 Paris Haute Couture week in July,” the statement said. “This marks the beginning of an inspiring new chapter for the Maison, rooted in our core creative values and shaped by Margiela’s couture heritage.”

Margiela's last foray into couture was led by none other than Galliano in 2024, who made a one-time return to the brand's Artisanal collection—and couture in general—after almost a decade at the house before his departure.

Reportedly, Martens', who guest designed a Jean Paul Gaultier collection in 2022 and was former creative director at Diesel and Y/Project, will focus on steering the brand through a couture lens, according to the press release:“Couture will continue to ignite creativity for the brand and drive boundary pushing designs.

The decision is one the feels exciting for the house, and a slightly unexpected direction for the brand to launch Martens' ouvre with Margiela. We know that the creative director is a skilled designer, and his über-successful JPG collection was one that sent ripples through the fashion community for months following.

With his history in mind, and taking note of the seismic reaction to Galliano's Margiela return to couture—arguably one of the most talked about shows of 2024—all eyes will be on Martens this July.
