We don't want to be the bearers of bad news, but transparency is a huge part of our ethos. Here does: summer is almost over. We know that we've only just hit the middle of August, that summer technically extends through September 22nd and that, in this day and age, we could be suffering through a heatwave well into the winter, we'll all be embracing autumnal color palettes, shopping for halloween costumes, dreaming of thanksgiving stuffing, and shopping for the holidays soon enough. As the seasons change, so do our makeup preferences.

At team Coveteur, we're drawn to makeup that foregoes the status quo, makeup that draws from eras past, and makeup that tells a story. But more than anything, we just want to be kept in the loop and stay ahead of trends. For the sake of being prepared for summer's end, we tapped five celebrity makeup artists to get their takes on the makeup trends we're about to see everywhere this fall.

Ahead, the seven makeup trends to know for fall 2026, according to experts.

Meet The Experts:

Jamie Greenberg is a celebrity makeup artist with over 20 years of experience. Her clientele includes Rashida Jones, Kristen Stewart, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Mali Boykin is a celebrity makeup artist known for her signature luminous skin finish and for endlessly advocating for women of color.

Loftjet is a celebrity makeup artist with it girl clients like Alex Consani, Julia Fox, Demi Lovato, and ADÉLA.

Allison Kaye is a celebrity makeup artist known as go-to for WAGs and the pioneer of "Game Day Glam."

Vincent Oquendo is a celebrity makeup artist with clientele like Jenna Ortega, Michelle Monaghan, and Alicia Silverstone.

Hybrid Skin

Instead of choosing between matte and dewy skin, why not implement both? Celebrity makeup artist Mali Boykin coins this "hybrid skin" and it has quickly become one of her favorite techniques. "It’s all about creating different finishes across the complexion rather than committing to an entirely matte or dewy face," Boykin says. "I like to control shine through the center while preserving luminosity on the high points, then adjust the coverage based on what the skin actually needs." Boykin recommends the Coveteur-approved Drunk Elephant Kamo Triple-Peptide Cover Drops because allows you to build coverage strategically—full coverage in some spots, and sheer where you want it. "The result feels dimensional, polished and intentional," Boykin says.

The Gunmetal Smoky Eye

The beauty world has been cast with a spell of nostalgia and this trend is the just the latest example. Plus, something about the temperature dropping has us feeling moody—and expressing that feeling through both fashion and beauty. "I think we’re going to see a return to a true smoky eye this fall, using gunmetal, charcoal and cool gray tones with a super diffused, cloud-like finish," celebrity makeup artist Loftjet says. "I keep going back to the late ’90s and early 2000s Dior/Galliano runways for reference." To achieve this, Loftjet suggests starting with a cream shadow to create the shape, building with powder shadows, and then diffusing everything until there are almost no visible edges.

Juicy Lips

A matte lip will always have its time and place, but we're taking a trip back to 2016 when Glossier's lip gloss was released and juicy lips were all the rage. "Find your favorite juicy lip gloss and wear it alone or over any lipstick," celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg says. "Don't leave home without it! I love a gloss that makes your lips look instantly fuller and fresh without feeling sticky or heavy. The best part is you can throw it on throughout the day with absolutely zero precision required."

Blush With Depth

This fall, bush is getting deeper—and in more ways. than one. First of all, in terms of tone. "For fall, reach for blush with more depth and dimension. Cranberry and muted berry tones bring a cool richness to the complexion, while reddish-browns add warmth," Boykin says. "Build the color in thin layers and diffuse the edges so it reads as a natural flush." Boykin highly recommends MERIT's Flush Balm in shades 'Après' and 'Postmodern' for sheer, buildable color, and Prada's Touch Blush in shades 'Waterlily' and 'Cherry' for a bolder finish.

Blush depth also applies to placement and positioning blush as the focal point of an entire makeup look. e’re going to see blush become the focal point of the entire makeup look. "It’s a fresh, pretty flush— youthful, feminine and noticeable without looking overly done," celebrity makeup artist Allison Kaye says. "Instead of concentrating blush directly on the apples of the cheeks, apply it slightly higher and blend it up toward the temples."

Monochromatic

Sometimes a bold beauty look can be as simple as matching your eyeshadow, your lip, and your blush. According to Kaye, monochromatic makeup in deep tones reminiscent of fall will be a go-to trick this season. "I believe we will also see monochromatic makeup in deeper rosy, berry and mauve tones. It’s an easy way to make makeup feel seasonal without doing a heavy fall eye," Kaye says. "I like using one tone across the cheeks and lips so the whole face feels cohesive and polished." For this, Kaye recommends the Sephora Collection Cheek & Lip Tint. "You can tap a small amount onto the cheeks, blend it upward, and then use the same shade on the lips for that effortless, put together look."

Ghost Lashes

According to celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo, many will be retiring their mascara this fall—or at least opting for mascaras or lash products that leave a natural finish. Recently popularized by Zendaya and Hailey Bieber, this is just the latest example of low maintenance beauty having its moment. "I’ve definitely seen no mascara or if there’s mascara, it's very light and combed through. I’ve even had clients request request this kind of look," Oquendo says. "I do think there is going to be a return to lashes. With the absence of mascara makeup, products like Impress Lashes (no glue, press on lashes" are going to be exactly what people are looking for. It’s going to give you definition without a full on mascara look."

Blurred Lines

This fall, lip liner is taking a subtle turn—think cooler tones and a less obvious outline. "I think lip liner is moving into cooler gray, taupe and mauve tones this fall. Instead of a harsh outline, it’s about creating a soft shadow around the lips that subtly reshapes them and gives the appearance of fullness," Loftjet says. "I like to work in sections, applying the liner and diffusing it with a small eyeshadow brush as I go, so the finished lip feels soft rather than overly drawn."

Blurred lines won't just be trending in terms of lip liner—Greenberg is predicting airy lines for everything, eyes included. "An easy way to achieve this with the eyes is to swap out graphic liner and use eye shadow for liner instead," she says. "Use a small angled brush to press the shadow right into your lash line, then softly smudge it out so there’s no hard edge. It gives you that effortless, lived-in look without making your eyes feel overly done."
