Let’s be real guys: fashion rules are made to be broken. Especially that often repeated, but at this point wholly redundant adage: “No white after Labor Day.” We mean, a white shirt and white denim feels about as necessary to our wardrobes as our perfectly faded skinny jeans.

That said, we have yet to perfect the all-white-everything cold weather ensemble. Because, let’s be honest, wearing the shade takes a good amount of confidence—in sense that you’re confident a brisk walk to brunch and the inevitable city grit involved won’t totally ruin your pristine duffle coat. But if there’s anyone we can trust with the ivory-tinged, somewhat anxiety-ridden look of dreams, it’s Ralph Lauren Black Label—we swear, no one makes winter white look quite so easy. All-ivory cashmere and leather? Sign us up. Seriously.

So when Impatient Foodie founder (and resident RL fangirl) Elettra Wiedemann offered to school us on her particular brand of winterized dressing, which, wouldn’t you know it, is all about challenging the lumpy black parka status quo in sleek white-on-white, we pretty much jumped at the opportunity, inviting her down to the Gramercy Park Hotel with a suitcase that might as well have been packed for the winter weekend of our dreams. And Wiedemann was more than game to break down exactly how to make ivory feel sleek and cool, not stuffy.
“A lot of these Ralph Lauren Black Label outfits can feel dressed up with a heel and some jewelry, but if you just throw on some sneakers the look is automatically more laid back. I also think it has a lot to do about your own attitude and how you wear the clothes.”

Because while winter white is all well and good when it’s confined to the pages of Vogue, we had to wonder about making an immaculate white tuxedo jacket work for us when we’re running from lunch meeting to board meeting. Then again, the constantly multitasking Wiedemann (last spotted via Instagram at the U.S. Open) might know a thing or two about make white work for us.
