The older I get, the more straightforward my beauty routine has become—and slowly but surely, I’ve been on a mission to replace just about every product I’ve accumulated with something that’s top of its class.

In other words: gone are the days of hoarding hundreds of powder blushes that aren’t quite my style or lipsticks that are just a touch too warm for my complexion. Instead, I’ve been focused on finding just a few products that really, really work for me. A tried-and-true holy grail, in every sense of the term. And honestly? The hair category as a whole has been a difficult one to crack.

When it comes to my hair, especially considering I’m a relatively new mom, my routine has become quite low-maintenance. These days, I skip the long salon appointments in place of an at-home gloss every few months that revives my color. On wash days, I use a styler to give myself a blowout – and while it gets the job done, it can feel a bit too weighted and difficult to handle, uncomfortably tugging at my more delicate strands. I seldom use additional hot tools unless I have an event to minimize damage, and I’ll typically extend the blowout for a few days before a final slicked-back moment with nourishing oils all over. Rinse, repeat.

And the next holy grail I’m on the hunt for? A “does it all” styler that gives me an easy ’90s blowout like I went to the salon without the added damage. And spoiler: the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x™ might just have claimed its crown…

About My Hair

I’ve been told by more than one hair guru that my brunette tresses are super fine, but I’m lucky enough to have a good amount of density. Naturally, my texture is quite wavy and without much damage, though in postpartum, I’ve noticed a few more flyaways around my crown than the norm.

As for my hair woes, I definitely notice a lack of moisture from mid-length to ends. And given those pesky newfound flyaways, I’m hyper aware of using dryers and styling tools that tear, snag, or damage my more delicate strands.

Overall, however, my hair is quite healthy because of my more low-key routine. But lately, I’ve been looking for a way to feel polished during the day without damaging my hair.

Meet The Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x™

Enter: the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x™ multi-styler and dryer, a buzzy all-in-one tool that comes with six unique attachments. Along with the styler being available in a few different colors, like Ceramic Pink and Jasper Plum, they also offer two different attachment bundles: one for the Curly+Coily girls, another for Straight+Wavy hair types, like myself.

Dubbed the most powerful tool from the brand yet, this multi-styler is equipped with Coanda airflow that’s 30% more powerful and two times the air pressure thanks to its Gen2 motor. Put simply, it dries tresses in record time.

This Dyson is also powered with i.d. Curl™ and Bluetooth® wireless technology, working overtime to consider your individual hair profile and dream up automated styling sequences that are just right for you.

How It Works

Upon opening the Dyson’s gorgeous, plum-hued box, there was a QR code to download the MyDyson™ app and connect my “machine.” That’s right: a machine, not a tool. And really, its powerful technology and luxe nature of the device really warrants the name change. Once my machine was connected, I was prompted to create a unique hair profile by answering five or so easy questions and was then ready to test out the six different attachments.

While I do find the app to be super helpful, especially when it comes to reminding me to clean out the machine’s filter, it did initially feel a bit too fussy for my (very) Type B personality. I mean, do I really need another app on my phone? That being said, the setup was quick and seamless, and the app does come equipped with styling tutorials, like how to create “Hollywood waves” or “textured volume,” which is useful for beginners. There’s also a nifty AI assistant for any quick questions you may have. All in all, this styler is an investment piece, and this feature feels like you are truly getting your money’s worth.

How The Attachments Work

I opted for the Straight+Wavy version of this Dyson, and as such, received the following attachments:

  • Large Round Volumizing Brush 2x
  • 1.6" Co-anda2x™ Curling Barrel
  • Conical Co-anda2x™ Curling Barrel
  • Air Straightener 2x
  • Fast Dryer 2x
  • Anti-Snag Loop Brush 2x

For me, I am most interested in the Large Round Volumizing Brush 2x for a bouncy blowout, as well as the different-sized Curling Barrels.

As for attaching them to the plugged-in wand, each piece effortlessly secures with a small twist. To switch them out, you slide over a tiny toggle on the wand with an unlock symbol above it, giving the attachment another quick twist to remove.

The Process

With my hair squeaky-clean and slightly damp, I went in with the Large Round Volumizing Brush attachment, which I picked to create that sought-after ’90s volume and movement at the ends. And when I tell you it heated up within maybe a single second, I’m not exaggerating. This feature completely blew me away and seems miles above the competition and any other tool I own.

That, paired with the ultra-strong and impossibly targeted airflow, seemed to dry my hair in half the time it takes with my typical styler, with minimal damage and absolutely zero tugging or snagging of my fine strands (which my previous go-to tool does on the regular). Plus, I loved how small and semi-soft this attachment was, never feeling too clunky or uncomfortable while I worked my way through my long hair. And most importantly? My hair feels so unbelievably soft, smooth, and healthy.

Immediately, this attachment gained its holy grail status, which is no easy feat.

The Results

Aside from a long-lasting blowout, I most often give myself curls, so I tested the 1.6" Curling Barrel and Conical Curling Barrel attachments next. What I loved most about these was that they didn’t provide additional “left” and “right” attachments, instead, they were designed with a top that twisted to switch directions. Genius.

Although I’ve tested this type of curler in the past, it’s been a while since I’ve used a tool that uses vacuum-like air to wrap your hair around it, and I was reminded that there’s most definitely a bit of a learning curve here.

As opposed to my fave curling wand, I didn’t feel like I had a whole lot of control. The result was super natural, tousled curls that personally didn’t feel quite worth the effort (especially as a mom with limited solo time), and I definitely found that my curls didn’t hold too long. That being said, they provide little-to-no damage, and they could be a total win for the girlies who love understated waves. For me, the finished look didn’t feel quite as polished as I’d prefer.

TL;DR: This Styler Is A Worthy Splurge

I know, I know: this styler is pricey at nearly $800—but honestly? It feels like a worthy splurge, especially if you’re like me and much prefer DIY blowouts to sitting hours on end in a salon chair (because literally who has that kind of time, especially with babies to raise). If you’re the type to treat yourself to a salon blowout on the regular, this could end up saving you a whole lot of time and money in the long run.

If you happen to be on the market for a dryer (that literally has every attachment you need, and then some), the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x™ should be very high on your list. Not only does it come with two different attachment bundles catered to your hair type—namely, Straight+Wavy or Curly+Coily—but it creates an effortlessly smooth, voluminous blowout with minimal damage. And on the days I want some Matilda Djerf-coded curls, I just need to switch the attachment and make sure to set with some flexible hairspray.

As for me, I’m a total convert, and this styler—especially the Large Round Volumizing Brush attachment—just made my increasingly exclusive list of holy grails.
