10 Things We Consumed This Week: From Julia Fox’s New Memoir to the Studded Oxford Shoes

Welcome to Coveteur’s Consumer Diaries! As our co-dependent relationship with the algorithm deepens with time, the bottomless scroll has turned us all into 24/7 consumers. As we consume varying degrees of news, targeted ads, trailers, shopping, and user-generated content, all accordioned together in an endless feed—our consumer habits have reached a fever pitch. Each week, we are asking Coveteur staff members about what they consumed this past week, and connecting the dots on our consumer behavior with a trendspotting Venn diagram.

As we barrel towards Halloween, we’re all trying to fight off our seasonal depression (and year-round depression, for that matter) as we haphazardly mood-board our costumes. I have a sneaking suspicion that come next weekend, we're going to see a whole lot of recycled Barbie outfits and knife-wielding Britneys toddling around house parties and shivering outside clubs. As our social calendars start to fill up, we’ve taken the last week to indulge in our guilty pleasures, escapist media, and shopping fall sales. Below, find out what the Coveteur staff consumed in the third week of October:

1.Basque Cheesecake

“I wanted something sweet and decadent without buying a whole new pantry. Enter this four-ingredient basque cheesecake. It's super easy to make, and the results are out of this world! Pro-tip: Let this cake set overnight if you prefer a silkier texture.”—Katie Mok (Content Management Coordinator)

2.The Grand Tourist featuring Amy Astley

“I am a sporadic listener of ‘The Grand Tourist with Dan Rubinstein’, and I absolutely devoured his episode with Amy Astley, editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest. Her ascent to her current role is fascinating on its own, but it also provides an illuminating snapshot of the evolution of media over the past few decades—a must-listen for those in the magazine industry!”—Camille Freestone (Senior Style Editor)

3.Elorea Earth Candle

“It's rained every single weekend here on the East Coast. Stuck indoors, I've been burning candles, and this one quickly became one of my favorites. As the name implies, it's woody and earthy with notes of oakmoss and patchouli to create just the right comforting vibes for a rainy day.” —Katie Mok (Content Management Coordinator)

4.Saie Dew Blush

“I had the pleasure of interviewing Saie founder, Laney Crowell, last week for our newsletter-exclusive 'The Close-Up' series. I also got the chance to try the brand's blush, and I'm obsessed. A little product goes a long way, and I cannot get over how dewy my skin looks.”—Samantha Wu (Marketing Coordinator)

5.Olive & June Clear Coat

“I have never been someone who has believed in the power of a topcoat—it’s always felt like an extra step with little to no reward, but this has completely changed my perspective. As someone who uses regular nail polish (as opposed to a gel), I am used to re-doing my nails up to twice a week, but using the Olive & June top coat in tandem with an Essie nail color has made my at-home mani last upward of a week and a half without chipping.”—Paige Kowal (Associate Account Manager)

6."Down The Drain" by Julia Fox

“I'm only 70 pages in, and I'm hooked. Julia has a way of telling the story of her life in a way that 'reads like fiction' (as a friend of mine so perfectly puts it); some pages are truly too wild to comprehend. What I figured would be a leisurely weekend read has quickly turned into a can’t-put-it-down, done-in-two-days obsession.”—Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

7.Church's Studded Oxford

“I've had my eye on black brogues in different forms this fall, but ever since the Bally SS24 show in Milan, I can't stop thinking about a studded variety. I scored a pair of these insane Church's oxfords on eBay for about 90% off the original retail price. I trust the quality and timeless design of Church's, and the studs seem like the perfect zap of personality. I'm taking them for their first spin today, and I'm wholeheartedly obsessed.”—Camille Freestone (Senior Style Editor)

8.The Great British Baking Show

“Nothing soothes me more than seeing the words ‘Biscuit Week’ on my Netflix queue. The 14th season of GBBS aired a few weeks ago, and it’s just as cozy, placid, and heartwarming as ever. This show is a weighted blanket for the soul.” —Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)

9.Mike Kelley Exhibition, Bourse de Commerce

“This is a bit of a cheat since I am not in Paris, but I am a huge fan of Mike Kelley’s work and have seen these works in several retrospectives in Los Angeles. If you are in Paris anytime before February 19th, definitely make time to visit the exhibit. Futuristic cities in bell jars, famous stuffed animal sculptures, darkly humorous performances on video—he’s such a singular and influential figure in the modern art canon, don’t miss it!”—Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)

10.See Eyewear

“With a new season comes new cozy sweaters and boots, however, this year, new eyeglasses are my priority. I fell in love with new readers (called Cheaters) at See Eyewear and scored a pair of sunglasses.Let your fashion-forward style shine through, and stop wearing the same frames as all your coworkers. ”—Patricia Foster (Executive Beauty Director)
