10 Things We Consumed This Week: From The Curse on Showtime to Nanny Fine’s Wardrobe

Welcome to Coveteur’s Consumer Diaries! As our co-dependent relationship with the algorithm deepens with time, the bottomless scroll has turned us all into 24/7 consumers. As we consume varying degrees of news, targeted ads, trailers, shopping, and user-generated content, all accordioned together in an endless feed—our consumer habits have reached a fever pitch. In each Consumer Diary, we are taking the cultural temperature and asking Coveteur staff members about what they consumed this past week.

1. No Particular Order Prompted Journal

“I’ve always wanted to be a journal girl, but the stream-of-consciousness style felt boring and repetitive. A spur-of-the-moment purchase, I picked up this journal called 'No Particular Order' after watching a YouTube video by their founder, influencer, Margot Lee. Over the past few weeks, I have been jumping into the journal on a random page whenever the feeling called, and it acted as a perfect brain break. Simple prompts like 'What are your nicknames, who gave it to you, and why?' contain the perfect amount of thoughtfulness and thoughtlessness to the often mundane or spiraling journaling process. Also, the ‘create your own cover’ is a cute little touch.” — Paige Kowal (Associate Account Manager)

2. Senreve Fortuna Bag

“The cure for my pre-holiday anxiety? Festive handbags. This forest green already has me thinking of the subtle pops of color that will get me through the winter woes. I had to indulge.” — Leya Kaufman (Head of Brand—Publisher & VP of Sales)

3. The Holdovers

“Before departing my parent's home post-Thanksgiving, I made sure to milk one last movie ticket out of them. We saw Alexander Payne's The Holdovers and were subsequently delighted. The story features the children forced to stay at their New England boarding school for the holidays, hosted by a curmudgeon teacher—played by the ultimate Scrooge: Paul Giamatti. The movie is not only set in the 70s, but made to look as if it were shot in the 70s—to my aesthetic pleasure. Think: Dead Poets Society with a more modern storyline.” — Camille Freestone (Senior Style Editor)

4. Dae Prickly Pear Hair Oil

“I've wanted to try a hair oil for a while now, especially as the weather in New York gets colder, and this one has been amazing so far. First of all, it smells so good; it doesn't make my hair feel greasy at all. I always face the issue of my hair being staticky or a bit frizzy post-hat hair, and this product does the trick.” — Samantha Wu (Marketing Coordinator)

5. Mezcalum

“In addition to joining the cast as the arguable central character of Bravo's Real Housewives of New York City reboot, Erin Lichy is also serving us by way of a new pure and delicious mezcal. With no additives or added sugars, Mezcalum is the answer for anybody looking to avoid a hangover throughout the holiday season and beyond. This is my new go-to for espresso martinis, and I plan on converting all of my friends at my upcoming holiday party.” — Caroline Dunn (Manager of Sales & Brand Partnerships)

6. Bluemercury M-61 Power Cleanse

“I tried this cleanser while staying at a friend's apartment a few weeks ago and woke up the next morning with skin that felt more clean and hydrated than it had in weeks. My skin was visibly clearer, too—a few hormonal acne spots that had recently popped up were already on their way out, and I was shocked. I haven't stopped thinking about it since, and just ordered three bottles to stock up.” — Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

7. The Curse on Showtime/Paramount+

“Chaotic, insanely dry (humor-wise), and sometimes so cringy it's hard to watch, The Curse is, quite frankly, a perfect TV show. Produced with A24, the show offers a satirical perspective on problematic ‘philanthropy,’ and the acting is so good, it couldn't feel more real. Nathan Fielder has done it again.” — Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

8. Body Vodka

“With 25% less alcohol than traditional vodka, you can enjoy your cocktail or throw back a shot without choking on the taste. The packaging is also really cute, which makes it a terrific gift if you’re the type who never shows up to a holiday party empty-handed. And it tastes as good as it looks!” — Lauren Malanga (Campaign Manager)

9. The Nanny, Streaming on Max

“With the sun setting earlier and end-of-year burnout coming in hot, binging The Nanny is the only thing my feeble, serotonin-depleted mind can handle. Not only does it scratch the itch of childhood nostalgia, but it’s even better than I remembered. The writing is punchy, 95% of the jokes aged well, and some of the outfits on Nanny Fine give me straight-up Stendhal syndrome. Hot tip for any fashion girls out there: follow @whatfranwore on Instagram—the 90s looks from Todd Oldham, Anna Sui, Moschino & more will have you drooling.” — Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)

10. Glossier Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen

“It’s been a struggle to find a daily sunscreen that doesn’t make my face feel greasy or chalky. The Glossier sunscreen goes on like a serum, and I forget about it right after applying. It’s also a very convenient size to throw in your purse if you, like me, only remember you forgot to put on sunscreen the second the sun hits your face when you step outdoors. ” — Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)
