10 Things We Consumed This Week: From Pink Cashmere Beanies to Bob Fosse Films

Welcome to Coveteur’s Consumer Diaries! As our co-dependent relationship with the algorithm deepens with time, the bottomless scroll has turned us all into 24/7 consumers. As we consume varying degrees of news, targeted ads, trailers, shopping, and user-generated content, all accordioned together in an endless feed—our consumer habits have reached a fever pitch. In each Consumer Diary, we are taking the cultural pulse of the week and asking Coveteur staff members about what they consumed this past week.

‘Tis the season of giving thanks, getting wasted with your cousins, and burning bridges with relatives who simply couldn’t keep their political opinions to themselves. While we're nursing our tryptophan hangovers (among others), we’re leaning on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to give us the much-needed dose of endorphins we’re so sorely lacking due to our post-“fall back” seasonal depresh. In addition to all the deals we’re adding to our cart (and donations we’re planning to make on Giving Tuesday), here’s what the Coveteur staff consumed in the third week of November.

1. Lisa Corti Floral-Print Cotton Quilt

“More pink. Always.” — Greg Brossia (Chief Digital Officer)

2. The Idiot by Elif Batuman

“I don't think I’ve ever consumed such a bulky book in such a short amount of time–the writing style of this coming-of-age story was intoxicating. Somehow, Batuman was able to write a novel that takes place at Harvard University, and it doesn’t come across as excruciatingly pretentious. As a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, this novel simply cannot be ignored.” — Paige Kowal (Associate Account Manager)

3. ALOHAS Shoes

“With its on-demand shipping model, ALOHAS is our go-to brand for sustainable footwear. The brand uses a pre-order system to ensure they only produce what is in demand, and overstocked items are often sold at a deep discount. I just received my first two pairs of ALOHAS shoes, and I already know that they will be a staple in my holiday wardrobe.” — Caroline Dunn (Manager of Sales & Brand Partnerships)

4. Faux Leather Trench Coat

“In the spirit of shopping small for Small Business Saturday, I've decided to stop gatekeeping my favorite closet staples. Since Shop Ruse opened in my hometown, I have spent a decent portion of my paycheck treating myself to new pieces to elevate my post-grad ‘adult’ wardrobe. The owner, Jess, has a keen eye for picking out the cutest sweaters, dresses, going-out tops, and more that take you from work to drinks with friends and beyond. I truly never walk out of Shop Ruse empty-handed. I recently picked up this leather trench, and Jess was kind enough to provide a code so I can share my shopping addiction with the rest of you–get 10% off with code SAM10 (you’re welcome).” — Samantha Wu (Marketing Coordinator)

5. J.Crew Neon Pink Cashmere Beanie

“To counteract my seasonal depression, I've been gravitating towards bright-colored sweaters and winter accessories–this beanie from J.Crew has become my Roman Empire. Even brighter in person, it's insanely soft and warm and makes the unfortunate task of freezing my ass off in the brutal NYC windchill just a little more fun. It's also 50% off for Black Friday—major slay.” — Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

6. Bloomcast by Friends of Shakespeare & Co

“Nerd Alert! I like to save my heavy literature for holiday breaks so I can really devour them (I read Les Mis at the beach this summer). My Thanksgiving endeavor is Ulysses by James Joyce, and may I put extra emphasis on the word endeavor. I've been listening to this podcast recapping and analyzing the different chapters, or episodes, as a little companion read. Now, I'm just enjoying listening to these voracious readers talk.” — Camille Freestone (Senior Style Editor)

7. Crossrope Weighted Jump Rope

“During the pandemic, I got into jumping rope (courtesy of a sisterly rec to watch the jump rope dudes on YouTube). I like to get my heart rate up with a workout, and this one is actually so fun. I'm up to a half-pound weighted rope—for now. And if you see my jumping in the park near my house, no, you didn't. An added bonus? The ropes are on sale for Black Friday!” — Camille Freestone (Senior Style Editor)

8. Bloom, Pre-Workout Sticks

“I'm not the biggest gym girl, but I do like the occasional hike. I packed these with me, and while physically I didn't feel much different, I did do way better on my trek uphill; no need to turn around halfway up the hill, so that's a job well done on my part! Since they're in the sticks, it's super easy to pack onto my carry-on for an upcoming trip!” — Katie Mok (Content Management Coordinator)

9. All That Jazz (DVD)

“I’m not a huge fan of musicals, but Bob Fosse is a genre unto himself. I watched this movie a lot as a teenager, and when I had a recent hankering for a rewatch, it was nowhere to be found online. (Not even after going through all the work of tracking down my friend’s ex-boyfriend’s mom’s Criterion Collection password!) I decided to buy it on DVD, and I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of it already with my friends. Hot tip: If you live in NY, they sometimes screen this film at the IFC Center, so don’t miss it!” — Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)

10. Fleabag: The Scriptures

“Niche holiday gifts are ideal for me. Think, something I would love but would never just purchase myself on a random Tuesday. As it gets a bit colder, I find myself reverting to my comfort television show, Fleabag. While searching for Phoebe Waller Bridges' next creative endeavor, I came across 'Fleabag: The Scriptures' and was stopped in my tracks—Iimmediately added it to my Christmas List.” — Paige Kowal (Associate Account Manager)
