Editors’ Picks: The "Anti-Trend" Pieces We’ll Never Get Rid Of

Trends may come and go, but timeless pieces last forever. While part of our jobs at Coveteur is to track trends, we would be doing a disservice to ourselves and our personal style if we always followed them—that would actually be impersonal. We believe that a good wardrobe consists of a combination of statement pieces, staples, and classic pieces that we were lucky enough to pick up along the way and that we will never, ever get rid of.

We have been, obviously, thinking a lot about personal style and, in turn, how we would define ours. Sure, our aesthetics fluctuate and evolve, but there are also constants. Things that have been with us for years, things that have been passed down to us, and things that will remain with us for a lifetime. Here, we offer you a little taste of team Coveteur's individual personal styles through the pieces that we refuse to let go of, whether they're on trend or not.

Tank Must De Cartier Watch

"I knew I wanted to buy a nice watch for myself for my 30th birthday, and the journey was a long one until I placed this delicate timepiece on my wrist. I had tried on many watches by that point and none of them felt right, but it was love at first sight with this sleek steel number. I like how it's a lesser-known model than the classic Cartier Tank, and how it feels like the perfect finishing touch that pulls any outfit together. It symbolizes so many things to me, and I will never get rid of it." - Faith Xue, Editor-in-Chief

Chanel Wallet On Chain

"Some things never go out of style, and one of those is the Chanel wallet on a chain. This was my first Chanel bag purchase, made even more special because I bought it at the Chanel 31 Rue Cambon store in Paris. This bag has seen me through most of my twenties and all the highs and lows that come with it, from wild nights to work events. Even now, I still reach for it all the time. (Word to the wise: get the pebbled leather if you tend to toss your bag around with abandon like I do; it holds up beautifully)." - Faith Xue, Editor-in-Chief

Dolce & Gabbana Short Jersey Sheath Dress

"Inspired by the iconic '90s archives, this Dolce & Gabbana sheath mini is the ultimate LBD. Shockingly, it came to me as a hand-me-down (an absurd hand-me-down, let’s be honest), but that only makes me love it more—preloved, with a whole life before me. From the moment I slipped it on, I knew it was never leaving my closet. It’s one of those rare pieces you put on and it fits so flawlessly, it feels like it was custom-made just for you. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better first impression of Dolce & Gabbana." - Natasha Sheridan, Social Creative Lead

Fendi Leather Peakaboo Bag

"Many years ago, I bought a giant worn-in Fendi Peekaboo off The RealReal and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. This bag is such a workhorse. It has been with me to many offices and many countries, and the silhouette works with almost anything. It's seen better days, but I like my items a little busted so I don't mind." - Ella O'Keeffe, Senior Fashion Editor

Christopher Esber Talus Twill Coat

"Christopher Esber is a notoriously excellent tailor, and this dinner coat (mine is black) is a mainstay in my evening wardrobe. I do think everyone should own a dinner coat for when it's too cold to bear ditching your jacket. This perfectly cut option never looks out of place over a more formal look." - Ella O'Keeffe, Senior Fashion Editor

Louis Vuitton Pochette Félicie

"The Pochette Félicie was actually my very first designer bag. Nothing says Louis Vuitton quite like the classic monogram canvas, right? What really drew me in was the gold chain strap—I love how easily it switches from a shoulder bag to a crossbody, depending on my mood (and, more importantly, my outfit). She might not make it out with me all the time these days, but she holds way too much nostalgia to ever let go." - Natasha Sheridan, Social Creative Lead

Chanel 11.12 Classic Handbag

"This bag is such a classic, and for good reason. I love how easy it feels to just throw it over my shoulder before heading out with the girls. It’s stylish without even trying, and somehow makes even my most low-key outfits feel a little more put together. I have it in the black leather, which makes it incredibly versatile (I can wear it with anything from jeans and a tee to a dress and heels)." - Kala Herh, Social Strategy Lead

Return To Tiffany Necklace

"This necklace originally belonged to my mother, who so graciously passed it down to me, and it remains one of my most treasured possessions. I love how delicate and dainty the silhouette is. It feels timeless, elegant, and easy to wear with just about anything. It’s the kind of piece that never goes out of style, no matter the season or trend." - Kala Herh, Social Strategy Lead

Burberry Long Castleford Trench Coat

"As the weather cools down, I always find myself reaching for my Burberry trench. It’s that perfect balance of practical and polished, plus it keeps me warm without ever sacrificing style. The cut is timeless, so I never feel like it’s out of fashion, and it’s become one of those pieces I know I’ll keep wearing year after year. Also, I'll never get over the signature check lining—it’s such a subtle detail, but it makes the coat feel extra special every time I put it on." - Kala Herh, Social Strategy Lead

Maison Margiela Tabi Ballet Flats

"My mom got me these for my most recent birthday after I accepted them for what they are: the most perfect black ballet flats to ever exist. I feel like they match and elevate every and all outfits, regardless of aesthetic. They are surprisingly comfortable, so I get so much wear out of them. I literally wore them for five days straight during New York Fashion Week while I ran all around town. When I eventually wear them into the ground, I will definitely be saving up to repurchase." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor

Tiffany T Smile Bracelet

"Another gift from my mom, but this time it was for my high school graduation. I love collecting timeless high-quality silver jewelry to dress up and accessorize otherwise simple outfits. And when I lost this bracelet while thrifting at a Goodwill in Upstate New York during college, my mom gifted me it again for my college graduation." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor

Saint Laurent Toy Loulou Bag

"There's clearly a pattern here. My mom only ever wants to gift me timeless things that I can keep forever and wear, despite trends changing. This was a gift for my 21st birthday. I'm currently looking into buying a replacement strap to turn it into a shoulder bag to match my current personal style a little better." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor
