With Korean beauty continuing to dominate our skincare routines and pave the way for effective, non-irritating formulas at relatively accessible price points, we’re here to make sure everyone—regardless of skin type—knows which K-beauty products will work best for them. Today’s focus: acne-prone skin. While some might think K-beauty is known only for deep hydration and skin barrier protection, its expertise goes far beyond that—and acne-prone skin needs hydration and barrier protection, too.

When it comes to acne-prone skin, experts recommend prioritizing consistency over overly complicated double-digit step routines. The key to taming acne is maintaining the right balance of oil and hydration, avoiding over-exfoliation, and finding products that work to combat both breakouts and the stubborn scars they tend to leave in their wake.

From lightweight moisturizers to scar fading serums to gentle exfoliants, we tapped four experts for their go-to recommendations for acne-prone skin. Ahead, 14 K-beauty products for acne, ranging from long-time bestsellers to rising favorites.

AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum

With acne inevitably comes scars—for most of us at least. For those struggling with persistent hyperpigmentation that lingers far after the pimple is gone, Charlotte Cho recommends the Axis-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. "If you're like me and often deal with long-lasting post-acne dark spots, Axis-y has a solid correcting serum that features niacinamide and other brightening ingredients to help fade the discoloration that lingers after a breakout," Cho says.

Some By Mi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner

If you're in need of a daily acne treatment that won't be too harsh on the skin, give Some By Mi's toner a try—and really commit to it for the recommended 30 days. "The combination of AHAs, BHA, and PHA really helps clear your skin of breakouts, while also helping with excess oil, rough texture, and clogged pores," Cho says. "Use it for 30 days straight (as it is gentle enough for daily use!) and you'll be on your way to clearer skin."

The Klog Soft Shield Pimple Patch

Every beauty editor I know has a set of pimple patches on deck for when a pesky breakout needs some overnight TLC—but these pimple patches from The Klog are discreet enough to wear out in the daytime, too. "Hydrocolloid patches are a K-beauty must-have to help flatten and heal breakouts. This hydrocolloid patch protects the blemish, absorbs fluid, and also keeps you from picking at it," Cho says. "I also like that the patches are thin and discreet enough to wear during the day, and in terms of value, are the best in the market."

Then I Met You Birch Milk Refining Toner

For those who don't need an aggressive acne treatment but are still dealing with a of texture they would like tamed, Then I Met You makes the toner of your dreams. "This milky, acid toner contains 1% AHA/PHA and is best for someone with congestion and uneven texture. I formulated this to be used daily, so that it can be a gentler acid toner or feel less like a traditional, aggressive acne treatment," Cho says. "The birch milk base and humectants are the hero ingredients that give it its milky, nourishing texture and experience for the skin."

ZEROID Richenic Cream With 5% Urea

Oily, acne-prone skin needs a good moisturizer, too. And if you're looking for something that will hydrate without making your acne worse, look no further. "It's a super lightweight texture that hydrates without clogging the pores," Dr. David Kim says. "It’s great for oily acne-prone skin. The 5% urea can gently exfoliate your skin as well."

FULLY Green Tomato Pore Clay Mask Cleanser

This mask and cleanser hybrid really kills two birds with one stone. "This is a unique hybrid formula that works as both a daily cleanser and a wash-off clay mask," Daniella Jung says. "It helps draw out excess sebum and impurities while leaving the skin feeling clean and balanced without over-drying."

Sinsuru Watery Sulfur Pore Cleansing Powder

For another cleanser in a completely different format that will get all of that gunk out of your pores, give Sinsuru's cleansing powder a shot. "It's a gentle enzyme cleansing powder formulated with sulfur to help remove excess oil, unclog pores, and refine skin texture," Jung says. "Once activated with water, it transforms into a soft foam that deeply cleanses while remaining gentle on acne-prone skin."

FATION Nosca9 Trouble Serum

FATION's Nosca9 Trouble Serum is formulated with heparin RX complex for soothing, pantheol for hydration, artesmia princeps leaf and centella asiatica extract for calming, and apple fruit extract for sebum management. "Developed by Fation, a skincare brand from Dong-A Pharmaceutical—one of Korea's leading pharmaceutical companies—this serum is specifically formulated to support acne-prone skin," Jung says.

COSRX Oil Free Lotion with Birch Sap

In terms of moisturizers for acne-prone skin, experts recommend formulas that provide lasting hydration without feeling overly rich or occlusive. "This is an oil-free moisturizer that provides lightweight hydration, making it especially suitable for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin," Jung says.

Anua Azelaic Acid 10 Hyaluron Redness Soothing Serum

Azelaic acid is an ingredient that should be on everyone with acne prone skin's radar. "It's s one of my favorite ingredients for skin experiencing both breakouts and the lingering redness. I especially like that this formula pairs 10% azelaic acid with hydrating and soothing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, Centella Asiatica, and panthenol," Erica Choi says. "Acne-prone skin still needs hydration and barrier support, and treating a breakout shouldn’t mean stripping the skin. The lightweight texture also makes this easy to incorporate into a daily routine."

Dr. Jart+ Pore Remedy PHA Exfoliating Serum

If Erica Choi had one piece of advice for those dealing with acne, it would be this: don't over-exfoliate. "Disrupting the skin barrier can create even more sensitivity," she says. "I like this serum because it uses PHA, a gentler exfoliating acid, to help address congestion, blackheads, and excess oil while still being considerate of the skin barrier. It’s a thoughtful option for keeping pores clear and refining texture without taking an overly aggressive approach."

innisfree Gentle Retinol + Salicylic Acid Acne Serum for Blemishes + Post-Acne Scars

For the sake of keeping the products in your rotation to a minimum, seek out products that are multi-beneficial. "I like formulas that can address both active breakouts and the concerns that remain after a blemish has healed. This serum pairs salicylic acid, which helps clear pores and treat acne, with retinol to support smoother, more even-looking skin over time," Choi says. "I especially appreciate the gentle approach to two powerful actives. It’s a good reminder that with acne-prone skin, consistency and balance are often more important than using the strongest treatment possible."

Superegg Kind Atmosphere Biome Mist

When dealing with acne, it's important to still take care of the skin barrier—and implement a product aimed to strengthen it into your routine. "We created Kind Atmosphere as a soothing daily essence mist to replenish hydration and support skin that feels sensitive or irritated. Cicaria™ helps support the skin microbiome and protective barrier, while Centella Asiatica helps soothe signs of sensitivity and redness, and White Water Lily provides additional soothing benefits," Choi says. "I reach for it whenever skin feels stressed or compromised. It’s a simple way to bring hydration and balance back into the routine without overwhelming the skin."

innisfree Invisible Barrier Korean Sunscreen Serum SPF 47 with Jeju Green Tea + Hyaluronic Acid

Sunscreen is an essential part of acne-prone skincare—and all skincare, to be fair. But especially for acne-prone skin when you're concerned about post-breakout discoloration. "I like this formula because it combines broad-spectrum SPF protection with the lightweight, hydrating feel of a serum," Choi says. "It layers comfortably into a daily routine without feeling heavy, which is something I always look for when recommending sunscreen for breakout-prone skin."
