Sporty, chic, and... a little preppy?

On a day out in Midtown Manhattan while wearing The Row from head to toe, Ayo Edebiri gave "sporty chic" a whole new meaning and let us know that she, and stylist Danielle Goldberg, are very much skilled in the art of mixing aesthetics. As the latest to take on the tried and true Carrie Bradshaw outfit formula, a perfect balance between sporty and feminine, Edebiri makes a strong case for why we all might need a pair of baggy basketball shorts in our wardrobes: they're incredibly versatile.

The Row's Spring 2026 co-ed collection "Inner Peace, Outer Elegance" features clothes meant to live and move in, in free flowing silhouettes and relaxed tailoring. For this look, Goldberg pulled a pair of navy basketball-inspired shorts with white piping from that collection and paired them with an oversized white long sleeve t-shirt slightly tucked into the shorts and The Row's Liisa pumps in black.

As we all try to turn trends on their head and make them our own, mixing contrasting aesthetics has been fun to both observe and try as a styling exercise, as a way of accomplishing looks that our entirely our own. Here, Edebiri accomplishes the seemingly impossible: a look that is casual, professional, dressed-up, and comfortable all at the same time.

To complete her look, she reminded us that a sweater can simply be an accessory if you casually drape it over your shoulders in an intentionally effortless manner. Her look ended up being a combination of things: sporty, comfortable, professional, and a little preppy, perhaps a bit of a nod to her upcoming New England-based academia focused film, "After The Hunt".
