The Hair Looks for Altuzarra’s SS24 Fashion Show Were Scrapped 48 Hours Before Call Time

Two days before Altuzarra’s SS24 collection was supposed to go down the runway, Jawara, the lead hair stylist for the show, realized there was a problem. The hair looks weren’t working. “We were trying to make it all about big hair, but then we realized that the clothes were so smart and intellectual, so we wanted to pull back the hair so the overall look didn’t look too ‘lady,’” he said backstage before the show. Jawara decided to opt for something sleek yet undone. “While we were doing a test [for the show], one of the models walked in with a messy knot she did herself, and we fell in love with the idea of doing that but making it a bit more intentional,” explained Jawara. After that, the team scrapped everything they had initially planned to do. “We disregarded the mood board we had and we kind of pulled inspiration from right then and there,” he said. “We wanted the hair to have a bit of ease.”

The unfinished look was seen across a variety of hairstyles that made their way down the runway. There were undone knotted buns, cornrows, and unfinished loose knots, to name a few. “Each girl looked a little different depending on their texture,” explained Jawara. Tons of products were needed to nail the undone style. “We wanted the hair to feel gritty. We didn’t want it to feel too clean,” he said. To achieve this, Jawara and his team used Fekkai’s Clean Stylers Root Lift Volumizing Spray, as well as their Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray.

The makeup look for the Altuzarra show complemented the paired-back styling of the hair.. An array of Aesop products were used to plump the skin and infuse it with moisture, including the brand’s Lucent Facial Concentrate and Sublime Night Replenishing Masque. Because the show's look was centered around a dewy complexion, makeup was kept to a minimum. Lead makeup artist Diane Kendal used Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer for a natural-looking base and swiped the brand’s Caviar Stick Eye Shadow Matte in Café Noir, Cobblestone, and Midnight Blue before finishing off with a hint of color on the cheeks and lips.
