Neon and sequins, anyone?
The Emmys are basically the back-to-school of awards season. In other words, it’s the first exhibition of red-carpet fashion, and the fashion did not disappoint. The Emmys purple carpet was flooded with bright colors (specifically shades of blue and the combination of red and pink) that created a fittingly celebratory atmosphere. There was quite a bit of sparkle and shine—Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus each looked like the physical manifestation of an Emmy award. Gender norms were challenged when the women wore the pants and one man (can you guess who?) wore a dress. Some even used fashion to make not just a sartorial statement, but instead used their clothing as a platform to raise awareness for a cause they believe in (just look at Laverne Cox’s rainbow Edie Parker clutch embossed with Oct 8, Title VII).
