When we think of the people who helped shape the fashion world as we know it today, Carine Roitfeld is near the top of the list. From her former role as the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris to helming the eponymous CR Fashion Book, she has spent decades influencing the style zeitgeist with her power-chic aesthetic. Now she’s expanding her brand into the beauty realm with the launch of Carine Roitfeld Parfums.

The seven-piece collection is inspired by Roitfeld’s seven favorite cities around the world and the “unforgettable lovers” she equates with each: Aurélien for Paris, George for London, Kar-Wai for Hong-Kong, Lawrence for Dubaï, Orson for New York, Sebastian for Buenos Aires, and Vladimir for St. Petersburg.

The scents themselves are pungent and bold—no time for subtlety when you’re trying to make a statement à la Roitfeld, who considers fragrance to be your most defining style signature. Heady florals, amber ouds, and rich leather appear throughout. Although each formulation stands well on its own, we’re partial to Kar-Wai, a floral, woody aroma that mixes sensual osmanthus with smoky longjing tea.

Roitfeld collaborated with three different perfumers to create the genderless scents: Aurélien Guichard, Pascal Gaurin, and Yann Vasnier. Ergonomic design inspired the glass bottle, which is meant to feel sensual to hold and is a deep khaki color, another one of Roitfeld’s signatures. And because each is an eau de parfum concentration, the fragrance will linger on the skin late into the evening, which, we suspect, is exactly the way she wants it.

Carine Roitfeld Parfums launches in the US and Europe on May 6 and will be available on Net-a-Porter and www.carineroitfeld.com for $285.
