There’s no better product to celebrate the arrival of spring than a bright rosy blush. In the hands of makeup artist Kelli J. Bartlett, we quickly threw out the notion that there is such thing as too much color on your face in favor of an ’80s-inspired application that wraps from the apples of the cheeks to the temples and eyes. Add in plenty of dewy highlighter and a pink lip stain, and you have the ultimate going-out look for the warmer months ahead.

Although this type of high-impact makeup might seem complicated, you actually need just a handful of products to recreate it. A powder fuchsia blush helps bring much-needed warmth to the face after months of cold weather and sunless afternoons, while a second, deeper cream blush sculpts your cheekbones and makes your eyes pop (especially those with brown and hazel shades). Don’t be afraid to embrace the drama this spring! Follow the video and the steps below to create your own “blush bomb” look.

START WITH A BASE BLUSH

Apply your first layer of warm, bright blush high onto the cheekbones with a medium fluffy brush, working it into the skin in small circles so the edges are diffused. Use a small shadow brush to blend the color across the lid.

PAT MCGRATH LABS FUCHSIA 002 EYE BLUSH

Nobody does high-impact color quite like Pat McGrath. While this fuchsia might look intimidating in the palette, it’s stunning on a range of skin tones, and with this look in particular, there’s no such thing as too much.

A SECOND LAYER OF BLUSH

Grab a deeper, but complementary, shade of blush to contour the face and eye. Use your fingers to work the cream product underneath the cheekbone from the middle of the cheek across towards the ear, blending the shade into the eye crease for extra definition. Use a beauty sponge to tap and ensure the product melts into your skin.

LILAH B DIVINE DUO LIP & CHEEK IN B. MEMORABLE

We love this blendable, creamy color from Lilah B., which settles into the skin like your favorite moisturizer, but with a pleasing pop of color.

PLENTY OF HIGHLIGHT

Apply plenty of highlighter to the high points of the face—tops of the cheeks, underneath the brows, bridge of the nose—to further contour the face and add a dewy glow. A quick dab of product to the inner corners of the eyes helps to brighten and make them appear more doe-like.

NARS ORGASM ILLUMINATING LOOSE POWDER

Cult-favorite Nars Orgasm looks flattering on any skin tone, and the pink undertones will complement your rosy blush perfectly.
