One of the best things about New York is that from street level, you can never really be sure what you’re looking at. The city is proof of not being able to judge a book by its cover. For example, when we visited Stila founder Jeanine Lobell’s home to talk about her legendary career—as you may remember, she famously painted the face of Hillary Clinton on the cover of Vogue—we had no idea she lived in a decorator’s dream town house. We were so blown away we had to capture every last inch of it.
Like, say, her neon green kitchen, which she swatched from a flower shop and features a custom birdcage in homage to her hometown of L.A. Or the living room with plush lilac lived-in couches, stacks of coffee tables, and oversized Oriental rugs. And that’s just the beginning of it. Then again, she is a beauty mogul, so playing with color is part of the job.
