Brooklyn is filled with incredibly cool families, and whenever we’re invited to hang out with one, our answer is always “What time should we be there?” In the case of Mick Batyske—the celebrity- and star-athlete-favorite DJ who spins at all the best parties—his wife Rana, and their two-year-old son, Myles, our arrival time was 1:00 PM on a Friday afternoon, and what ensued was a deep dive into the family’s wardrobe full of rare sneakers, vintage tees, and designer pieces, as well as an observance of Myles’ hobbies, which include jumping, running, and coloring.

Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Mick deejayed as a hobby to help pay for college and grad school. After earning an MBA, he moved to NYC in 2008, though it wasn’t Wall Street or corporate America that lured him to the city. “I had just finished grad school, and I didn’t want to grow up,” he says. “Deejaying had just started to go really well for me in the Midwest, so I felt like I should at least give myself the opportunity to move to a bigger stage and see what would happen. And if it didn't work, I would just go home and be a normal civilian [laughs]. Fortunately for me, it worked out.”

By our account, it has more than “worked out.” Mick’s flair for weaving together music has landed him a growing slate of A-list gigs, including deejaying private parties for Kanye West, Jay-Z and Beyonce, and Lebron James, as well as a year-long residency at Hyde in Las Vegas. There was also that time he jetted off to Cannes for a private event hosted by Jodi Foster, and also that night he spun for Steven Tyler during New York Fashion Week. Along with this success has come the means and connections to secure some of the things he dreamed of owning as a child, including sneakers, sneakers, and more sneakers.
