For All You History Nerds, This Cocktail Is Over 130 Years Old

Nothing screams timeless glamour like The Dorchester Hotel in London. This world-famous five-star hotel has been the place to stay in London for years and years. Their clientele is unmatched: Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton commonly stayed there, and countless other celebrities, artists, and royalty have frequented it. Reflecting its history, The Bar at The Dorchester is committed to rediscovering and reinventing cocktails from previous eras. This includes everything from well-known classics to hidden gems found by their passionate bartenders. Take “The Martinez,” a precursor to the martini and the Manhattan. Created in 1884 (maybe even earlier!), this cocktail uses a specialty gin that is tied to England’s past. Simple and no-frills, the key to this cocktail is using high-quality, niche ingredients. Just like The Dorchester, “The Martinez” is refined, elegant, and historic. Try the recipe out this weekend, and you won’t be disappointed.
