I’m Convinced This Beauty Gadget Can Replicate a $10,000 Face-Lift

I’ve crossed a threshold in my beauty obsession where I’m gleefully diving into the world of gadgets and gizmos aplenty, all in the name of skin-care perfection (despite the screams of my credit card on the daily). I firmly believe that there’s only so much that creams and serums can do to improve your complexion, and at some point, you’ve got to call in the big guns. Enter the cult-beloved NuFace, a microcurrent facial-toning device dreamt up by veteran esthetician Carol Cole.

So, what exactly are microcurrents and why should you be adding them to your routine? They’re weakened electrical pulses that contract and expand muscles, thereby tightening the forehead and jowls especially. Your face appears lifted and firm, like you regularly sleep 10 hours a night and drink nothing but filtered lemon water. The glow is real, people.

I’ve been using it as instructed—slowly grazing along my jaw and cheekbone from the middle of my face outward, and from my temples, eyebrows, and middle eye area up toward the hairline—five days a week for the past two weeks, and I’ve noticed a considerable decrease in the intensity of the fine lines on my forehead (30 is only a year and a half away!), and definite lift along my pronounced jawline. So much so that although I usually contour my cheekbones with bronzer, after taking three extra minutes to use this instead, I already had all the definition I crave.

Paired with the NuFace Gel Primer (I’m partial to the 24k Gold option because I’m fancy), I hardly feel anything at all—maybe a dulled sting if I maneuver the device off the coat of primer by accident, but nothing painful. I’ve even sucked my boyfriend into trying it on half his face, so I could compare the two (science!), and there’s a huge difference in the texture and severity of his furrowed brow. Sure, it’s a bit of an investment price-wise, but with the results comparable to a face-lift, it’s safe to say that I’ll be sticking with this for my multi-step skin-care routine from now on.
