Within 60 seconds of entering Slick Woods’ hotel room, the model and her crew realize that they forgot the appropriate underwear for her (very cropped) Fenty x Puma shirtdress. “We’re going on a panty mission,” she cries, throwing on her platform boots. “You guys down?” Before I know it, we’re strutting down Seventh Avenue like it’s one of Woods’ many recent runway appearances, headed for the glowing Duane Reade sign about two blocks south. With her signature buzzed head, gap-toothed grin, and bright orange eyebrows, there’s no doubt that the pedestrians around our party are wondering, who exactly is this vivacious woman posing for photos next to control-top panty hose?

Twenty minutes later, emergency Hanes in hand, we’re back in the hotel room preparing for the Moxy Times Square grand opening event just a few floors up. “Im obsessed with detail,” she explains as she zips up her *epic* Fenty x Puma boots. “I cannot leave the house unless I’m happy with every aspect of my outfit down to the socks. I can’t wear the same earrings. If I feel like I could do more when I’m at the house, I’m like, ‘Oh God. I can just come a little harder next time.’”

Obviously, being a muse to Rihanna herself means that Woods knows exactly how to rock the cult-favorite label and looks fierce as hell in the process. As she says, “If I’m not feeling that extra layer of confidence on top of mine, that sauce on my confidence, I need to turn around and get back to work because that’s my whole sha-bang. You ever seen like, a swimmer swim or a fish in water? It’s like watching me in my element when I’m getting dressed.” We can definitely attest to that. Check out how Woods prefers to set the mood before a big night out, the makeup products she thinks are witchcraft, and why you’ll never catch her drinking tequila anymore.

“[When I get ready to go out] there’s 21 Savage playing, and there’s Hennessy cracked open. And there’s a little bit of Backwoods being passed around. That’s how we get it cracking. I’ve got a stripper pole [in my apartment]. It spins. And supports up to 440 lbs!”

“[As I get dressed,] I pick a major piece that is eye-catching and that you will remember. It might be shoes, it might be a major boot, or a major top, whatever. But I try to keep my style very consistent. I try to make sure that I’m always a step ahead of myself yesterday. Fuck the next person, [just] as long as I’m a step ahead of where I was yesterday.”

“Especially nowadays, coming into being a supermodel and becoming this person that people expect to be polished, I think that detail in clothes and being polished goes hand in hand. So I can act the way I want to, and do what I want to, which might not necessarily be cookie-cutter format, but at the end of the day, I’m crispier than Warren Buffet. I’m crispier than Warren Buffet, so what’s really good? [laughs]”

“Every three days [I shave my head]. I usually leave my bleach on for twenty minutes. A lot of people leave bleach on my head for like an hour or something, and I don’t have a really sensitive head, but after two hours of bleach on anybody’s head [it’s] going to start burning. I used to get burns on [my] forehead and shit when I was getting my hair done professionally, but it got to a point where I was at the Met Gala with a burnt [head]. It was bad. It was like, ‘What if all of my hair falls out and I’m going to just be really bald, like for real? No choice. I have to do it myself.’”

“I go in between a lot of different colors. Orange is one of my favorites, which is kind of like a rusty, ginger-y type of situation, but I had a little more fiery color on top of it to make it fade out. My head is really round, so I try to make my hair give it a little dimension. When I do a pink, I try to make sure there’s gold in it. Make it a little different, because especially being bald and in New York, a lot of people bleach and color their hair, so I try to just stay on top of my game with my hair. I like that feeling, that look, when you look in the mirror after you do it, and it’s fresh and it looks like it grew out green. I usually am really on top of it, but today I was like, ‘Oof, let’s just keep it rocking’ [laughs].”

“I use Pro Filt’r Foundation in 360 from Fenty Beauty. I love the foundation, but it is very matte. You have to mix it with oils if you like that dewy look, which I do. I kind of like to look a little sweaty. It’s my thing.”

“I mix my foundation with Dr. Hauschka, but before I do that, I put on the primer, and then I put on the oils and mix it with the foundation and blend it. After that, I use the pink Ginger Binge highlight—the Killawatt. I use it on my cheeks as a blush, and then on my brow bone—like a base of my highlight—and then at the very bones of my cheeks, I put [on] the Trophy Wife. I like a little bit of the Trophy Wife on my eye. And then I put Yacht Lyfe—the little matchstick —in between my eyes. Then I use Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara.”

“I do use the Coconut Bronzer from Marc Jacobs with the big brush. ‘Cause I’m not that blessed at blending my highlight, so maybe when I miss a little bit, just cover it up with a little darker… ‘Hey, contour!’ It smells good, and it doesn’t give you that makeup smell, like a stripper’s car. It’s like, ‘Mmm girl, all of that bronzer in here!’”

“I hate wearing matte lipstick. It’s the worst. Having big, big lips and then wearing a dry layer on top, it’s like I can’t function. It gets on my nose; it gets down here. If I have a coffee cup, it’s going to be spread across the whole thing, and I’m just like, ‘Why did I do that?’ Unless it’s one of those permanent [ones] then you get kind of scared, like black magic. There have been some times where I came home from a shoot, and there was a power outage at home, so I couldn’t see anything, and I just went to sleep [and] the next day, I look in the mirror, I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I still look exactly the same. What is this witchcraft?’ [laughs] Makeup is scary.”

“I use Castile soap late at night because New York was really hard on my skin when I first moved out here. It was just really dirty. When I washed my face at night, it’d be dirt actually in the sink. I need that [soap] because you need to get all of that shit out.”

“I use Palmer’s Swivel Stick for lips because my lips are so big. It looks like a glue stick. I mix vitamin E oil with my toner, which is Dr. Hauschka, because the vitamin E gets rid of my dark spots, and the toner helps it, too. It’s hella moisturizing.”

“Marc Jacobs Decadence—that’s my signature fragrance. It’s like a voyage in my life.”

“[In my bag I have] a lighter—a Richardson lighter—Gloss Bomb, my passport, my tree [laughs], Backwoods.”

“I don’t really like sugar [in my drink]. If I’m going to drink sugar, I want sugar by itself. I don’t like sugar and alcohol together. I used to be a big rosé drinker or champagne. I just fucking hate that shit now. I literally am like, ‘OK. Where’s the shot of Henny and a little ginger ale or something?’ I’m good. I don’t like to sip or be having a glass in my hand all in the club. It’s wet. It’s dripping down. Somebody always flings their arm to be in our picture. Low key, it’s me though. I’m like, ‘Oops, my bad’ [laughs].”

“[For shots] it’s Henny. I cannot drink Patrón. I have a really serious anger problem, and tequila is an upper, and I cannot fuck with uppers. It’s already a scene in my head like saying, ‘Yeah, bitch, do that shit!’ And then with the tequila, he’s drunk. He’s like, ‘Where if I do that shit, boy?’ Like, ‘Ayy!’ Going ham. I’m just like, ‘Oh my God. Can you chill? Bro. You drunk!’ ‘No I’m not!’ Just dancing and shit.”
