Sunday Spa Routine

Our Director of Production Shares Her Grown-Up Sunday Skin-Care Routine

Cleansing devices, jade rollers, and, oh yes, La Mer.

By: Lauren Gonzalez

Why do Sunday scaries happen to good people? My attempt to distract myself from the fact that in less than 12 hours I’ll be battling the snooze button is a Sunday spa routine that begins with a scalding hot, pore-opening shower. I follow that by binge-watching old Will & Grace episodes and closely examining every inch of my skin, hair, and nails for the signs of aging that come with entering my third decade of life. Gulp.

Just kidding. Thirty is amazing, and I love being able to say things like “As a 30-year-old woman, I believe…” Très wise. Turning 30 also means I take my skin-care regimen more seriously than ever—time to call in the big guns. Below, click through my head-to-toe Sunday scaries-fighting beauty routine.

Christophe Robin cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt

Christophe Robin’s cleansing purifying scrub is a scalp massage and wash all in one. My hair is thick, and I wear a lot of product in it, so this scrub helps my hair feel squeaky-clean and refreshed after a long week of wearing a slicked-back bun.

Dior Hydra Life Lotion Foam Cleanser

Dior Hydra Life Lotion Foam Cleanser smells really fresh and clean and gets rid of any and all of my makeup residue. It’s super thorough, so it gets the job done, but gentle, so my skin is never left feeling irritated or too dry even when used with a cleansing device.

Foreo Luna Play

I’m obsessed with this little guy—my face has never been clearer or softer. The Foreo Luna Play is the most portable cleansing device ever, which makes it ideal for those Sundays I spend away from home.

Diptyque Diffuser

After a hot shower, I wrap my hair up in towel, put on my robe, and turn over my Diptyque Hourglass Diffuser in Figuier. It makes my whole apartment smell incredible and creates the perfect setting for all the masking and moisturizing about to go down.

Bobbi Brown Instant Detox Mask

I try to apply Bobbi Brown’s Instant Detox Mask when my bathroom is still steamy for maximum effect. It goes on wet and reveals all the excess oil clogging up my pores as it dries; within five minutes, dark little oil rings appear all over my nose and t-zone. It’s really quite fascinating.

Babyganics Eczema Care Skin Protectant Cream

While I wait for my mask to dry, I slather the rest of my body in Babyganics Eczema Cream. My legs and arms tend to be really dry, so this thick, unscented cream really does the moisturizing trick.

Crème De La Mer

Crème de La Mer and The Eye Balm Intense are my favorite dynamic duo. One application to my face and neck, and it’s like Kira Kira IRL.

Jade Roller

I use a jade roller to help my skin absorb my moisturizer while also attempting to lure my cheekbones out of hiding. Immediately after applying my face and eye creams, I apply gentle pressure in an upwards direction all over my face and neck for about 5-10 minutes. Jade-rolling is supposed to help with circulation and the reduction of fine lines, plus the fact that I get a face massage before I go to bed every night is an added bonus.

Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Nightly Re.Pair Mask

Last but not least is Dr. Jart+’s Cicapair Tiger Grass Nightly Re.Pair Mask, aka a lazy girl's guide to masking—I apply it in bed and don’t wash it off until the next morning, plus it soothes any redness or irritation caused by my detox mask’s potency. Double-masking for the win.
