We’ll be honest: when it comes to ~going out looks~, denim may not be the first thing you think of. Or at least, that’s how it used to be. But if there’s any one maxim that defines where we’re currently at as a culture, sartorially-speaking, it’s that pretty much anything goes. And that very much applies to wearing jeans and sneakers for a night out (pair ‘em with a deliciously ’80s’ Parisian-y sequined one-shoulder top, et voila. See what we mean?).

After all, the one undisputed rule of cool is that it only really works when you at least look like you’re not really trying—and there’s nothing that screams “effort” quite like squeezing into a bandage skirt and teetering heels you can barely walk in. In other words? Jeans for the win. Namely, Gap’s Super Slimming denim. These babies were developed with innovative technology to ensure there’s no stretch from left to right in the fabric used, but plenty running up and down the jean—resulting in mile-long legs and perfect for pairing with a cool, directional mule and tequila on the rocks. The sleek, tailored fit; variety of pulled-together-looking dark washes, and most importantly, the statuesque legginess they give us, have landed them firmly amongst the ranks of our closet’s MVPs, and our go-to item to grab when heading out for drinks. Here’s how a handful of Bustle and Coveteur staffers style them.

Lauren Gonzalez

Director of Production, Coveteur

Her ideal night out in 3 words:

“Tequila, karaoke, pizza. It would start with dinner and drinks with a table full of friends, and end at Sing Sing on St. Mark’s Place screaming (not singing) Bohemian Rhapsody and/or It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”

Favorite night of the week for a night out:

“Thursday! I love when casual drinks with friends or coworkers turns into an unexpected NIGHT [clapping hands emoji] OUT [clapping hands emoji—those are always the most fun for me.”

Why she loves Super Slimming denim for a night out:

“Simplicity is key, so a pair of jeans that makes my legs look longer and lifts my tush without looking like I’m trying too hard is a win-win. Need I say more?”

How she’ll style them:

“I always feel a bit more confident when I’m walking around in heels (plus, the extra height makes it easier for my friends to spot me from across the bar.”

What’s blaring from her speakers as she gets ready:

“Drake and Celine Dion.”

“Bartender, get me a…”

“Tequila soda, lots of lime!”

Where you’ll find her on any given evening:

“Sing Sing, obviously. Beekman Hotel, Holiday Cocktail Bar, Grand Ferry, Ace Bar, Pieces.”

She’ll stop for late night eats at:

“I’m not above ordering Dominos Pizza from the back of an Uber.”

Most memorable recent night out:

“My brother lives on the West Coast, so any chance I get to go out with him is special. One of the last times he was in town, we went to a really fancy dinner, then to the Comedy Cellar where we sat front row and were picked on by the host the entire show.”

Melissa Louis-Jacques

Sales Planner, Bustle

Her ideal night out in 3 words:

“Spontaneous, fun, comfortable. It would start with drinks and dinner with friends and end with hours of dancing & laughing.”

Favorite night of the week for a night out:

“Saturday. You’re not exhausted from work, and you have plenty of time to get ready.”

Why she loves Super Slimming denim for a night out:

“If I’m wearing denim out, I’m feeling a little sassy and confident. I wear loose clothes so frequently, so to wear something so form-fitting is risky for me.”

How she’ll style them:

“For a night out, I love wearing denim with some heels and loose low cut top. The pairing keeps things sexy, but romantic.”

What’s blaring from her speakers as she gets ready:

“Hip-hop, rap, and LOTS of Beyoncé.”

“Bartender, get me a…”

“Right now, gin and tonic with extra limes. Anything with tequila if I’m really feeling good.”

Where you’ll find her on any given evening:

“Tender Trap in Greenpoint. A bit gritty but the music is always good, the crowd is always in for a good time, and it’s close to my apartment. I’ve never failed to have a good time here. It’s my go to when I’m in need of a proper night out!”

She’ll stop for late night eats at:

“Taco trucks. The BEST night cap.”

Most memorable recent night out:

“Most recently I went out in Lisbon, Portugal with my best friend to a swanky hidden club on a rooftop of a parking lot that overlooked the city (even better than it sounds). I danced and laughed the night away. To think of it, I was wearing denim!”

Stephanie Mark

Co-Founder, Head of Business Development and Partnerships, Coveteur

Her ideal night out in 3 words:

“Dancing, drinks, friends. It would start with some wine over a great meal and end with me getting home at a decent hour and able to workout at some point the next day!”

Favorite night of the week for a night out:

“Friday or Saturday—being hungover at work is my worst nightmare.”

Why she loves Super Slimming denim for a night out:

“I used to never wear denim for a night out, but I am a complete convert. I love it for going out in NYC where it’s a more casual atmosphere. It allows me to be more playful with my hair and makeup, while still maintaining a laidback look and vibe. To me, Super Slimming denim hits all the marks: goes with everything, check; slimming, check; perfect length with any shoe, check.”

How she’ll style them:

“To style up my denim, I usually go for a statement shoe and bag. If I still need a bit more of a punch, I will make my makeup a bit more defined, and add a dramatic top.”

What’s blaring from her speakers as she gets ready:

“Anything from Queen, to Beyoncé.”

“Bartender, get me a…”

“Aperol Spritz. For summer, and for always.”

Where you’ll find her on any given evening:

“Somehow, without fail, every single weekend I end up at The Flower Shop. And I always end up at Gemma for a casual dinner with friends.”

She’ll stop for late night eats at:

“Convincing the chef at whatever bar I am at to whip me up some fries is my go-to move.”

Most memorable recent night out:

“I recently ate at the bar at 49 Monroe with a friend, and then went to The Flower Shop where I ran into a bunch of people I hadn’t seen in a long time. It was the perfect night.”

Jackie Bernstein

Director of Branded Content, Bustle

Her ideal night out in 3 words:

“Funny, unexpected, and unforced. It would start with drinks at my place. I love having people over because (a) I’m a bit lazy, (b) I like making cocktails for people. Then we’d eat food, catch a show in Brooklyn somewhere, grab beers at a dive bar, and then… we’d probably eat more food.”

Favorite night of the week for a night out:

“Tuesdays. It’s not too crowded, the staff is feeling fresh, and no one’s trying too hard.”

Why she loves Super Slimming denim for a night out:

“They’re just the ideal skinny jean and create a great silhouette (read: they make your legs look great). You can move around a lot without worrying about the denim losing its shape, as I discovered on set. You can easily take it from dinner to drinks to late-night pizza without feeling out of place.”

How she’ll style them:

“I tend to go with a darker wash for a night out, and I try to add some color to make things interesting—whether it’s a fun pair of shoes, a bright lip, or a pair of earrings.”

What’s blaring from her speakers as she gets ready:

“Whatever my boyfriend and I mutually agree on, since we live together and have to share—usually hip-hop or punk rock.”

“Bartender, get me a…”

“An old-fashioned. But if it’s a busy bar, a bourbon and club soda with lemon does the trick.”

Where you’ll find her on any given evening:

“I keep it low-key, and I tend to gravitate towards places in Brooklyn or Queens, where most of my friends live. My favorite spots vary, but I like going to places like Old Stanley’s in Bushwick or Cardiff Giant in Clinton Hill—they have great beer lists and pinball machines. Not to brag, but I am pretty much a pinball wizard.”

She’ll stop for late night eats at:

“Does ordering Seamless from my cab count? If not, I’ve definitely done some damage at Vanessa’s Dumplings.”

Her most recent memorable night out:

“We recently did a boat cruise with our entire staff at BDG. It was a bit drizzly, and terribly windy, but everyone was a really good sport. The best part was watching everyone attempt to dance to ’90s hits as the boat tossed back and forth. Like The Perfect Storm mixed with your senior prom. The night ended with tacos, so I consider that a win.”
